mortanius
This song has always intrigued me, never fully understood it. I mean, the connection between what the lyrics say and England. Would love to get some help on that. Oh, and also a little help on this line, which meaning I never understood: "You can still say 'homo' and everybody laughs But the joke's on you, you never read the song They all think they know but they all got it wrong" What did he mean by that? _Laurie_
Hi mortanius, welcome to Songfacts... I'm not sure if I've heard this song before, maybe I'll look up the lyrics and try to figure it out...by the lyric you posted, I'm thinking that "everybody" may be the press writing and reporting to the public a certain song that has references to being gay?...but they never really even read the song, they just are looking to drag a person down in some way?...... I;m guessing that Bernie Taupin wrote this also?

_Laurie_
Yes it's possible a past event...since the video shows about growing up in England.... "the jokes on you" this tells me "they" think they know what the song is about....when really they've got it all wrong....so the jokes on them... Interesting song, I've never heard this one by Elton before....I'm also wondering what he means by "never read the song"....I'm wondering what song he's refering to... a certain one or is this just a general statement....hmmmmmm Edited October 28, 2007 by Guest

edna
Wikipedia says that "Made in England" ...is an autobiographical telling of his growing up, parts of his life, and what it's like in England.
