Mike
Oh, I agree! But cost is an issue here. If I could I'd get a 1911 (chambers .45ACP) Look at this beauty! .45's are around $800.00 9mm are around $300.

MuzikTyme
No doubt, that's a very respectable firearm. Viaene offers a good alternative, brother Mike, as well.
MarcM
You must be very happy that your son shares your love of firearms and shooting. I am glad to see you are doing it right! 45 cal is good (it's what I carry)but 9mm is nothing to sneeze at, either. 45's require more practice and are more difficult to control. edna
We have one like this at home. When the cats see my husband will shoot at them, they immediately run away from the bed and the room and we we can sleep.

I love hearing someone speak from actual experience! Hi, Marc! The .45 kicks well, wouldn't you say? What's your favourite hand-gun if I may ask? Always nice to see your posts, BTW. Kevin
Won't a .45 put a hole in a person the size of a golf ball - or is that a myth ? The cops here use .22 cal. pistols , surprisingly - or perhaps not- given the past history of nasty authority here and people's current views toward it . Steel2Velvet
It's interesting that people spend hundreds on personal handguns, pay for range time to practice with their weapon, spend time cleaning and inspecting its action for proper use, only to then confide to one another, "Hope I never have to use it." Beyond the much less expensive home fire extinguisher, handguns must be the most costly private commodity the ultimate purpose of which is hopefully avoided. The .45 will put a hole about the size of a dime or even smaller in the forehead. Then when you look at the back of the head, well...there is no back of the head. Viagra's only #5? I should hope that a cop sitting by the side of the road taking radar hopes he would never pull over a speeder and issue a ticket. But, simply by his presence, this should slow people down and make the road a safer place to travel for all. Mike
Mikey, I appreciate your fondness of the right to bear arms. But if you truly want something with true stopping power, the following is it . . . Colt .45 (government-issue). Bar none! It's what I consider the finest hand-gun ever to be designed. Marc. Your advise was well received, I was looking at the gun shop yesterday, I saw this little beauty... It's priced within my budget, (well very soon anyway) $350.00 Taurus 24/7 .45 ACP Pistol. I was considered the 9MM until this baby showed up in my sights. 12+1 SA/DA SS. Accuracy, light weight, good control. Nice piece!! The Seeker
Can't one of you open a separate thread for your gun talk? I'm not saying (anymore) you should stop entirely, but I don't want to look at guns any more than I really need to and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Levis
Yeah, you're being a tad insensitive, folks. Also off-topic. Weren't we done with the gun talk a few pages back? edit: btw, Muzik, your images are hotlinked - bad thing. Lea
Indeed. So what came first, the chicken or the egg? Everybody knows it was the chicken Fin I think to most of the people here guns are mostly considered as a hobby. Kind of like archery, fencing, knife throwing or axe throwing. Yes guns are more lethal but all are weapons. Just wanted to add that observation but if the talk of guns is upsetting to some SFers here I really do think maybe we should be a little more sensitive and maybe open a different thread or do the PT thing.
