RonJonSurfer
How does "Layla" not make the list?? I think being overplayed has diminished the perception of this song and where it ranks in R&R. Oh well, the people had their say...
c_s_1987
I certainly would have voted for the Derek And The Dominoes version, but I don't really think Eric Clapton's was as good as the original.
Farin
the original version was #8 in the first Ultimate Top Ten
Lucky
Since this is the Ultimate Ultimate, I'm very happy with the songs on this list. Every song and artist on the list was an important influence in Rock 'n' Roll. Stone's lover that I am, I could have been happy with Shine a Light not being there ( ), and the inclusion of CCR's I Heard It Through the Grapevine, or Eric Clapton's Layla. It would have been a more well rounded, representational list. I personally like Clapton's Layla. It's not the classic that Derek & the Dominos is, but just because a song is classic, doesn't make it better. Just more overplayed. Now the #1 song.... deserves the #1 Spot!! My mistake then...if this was not the original, then I agree....sorry about that..

OLD 55
You got it right the first time, Ron. I'd rather listen to Eric's laid back version than the rather urgent vocals and frenetic pace of the original. I know not many will agree with me ! RonJonSurfer
I heard a story about Eric on the radio today. His autobiography is coming out next week and he says he is almost totally deaf now, but refuses to wear hearing aids. Very sad, but 40-50 years of abusive loud amplifiers takes it's toll.
