johnny
After reading the power ballads post I thought I'd do a murder ballads post. I don't know if anybody is a fan of murder ballads, but I am. Stagger Lee - Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds (Stagger Lee has some pretty bad swearing....you've been warned....) Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix Anymore murder ballads you like? Edited August 29, 2007 by Guest
The Seeker
What are murder ballads? Just songs about people murdering other people? I never thought of Hey Joe as a ballad.
blind-fitter
Nick Cave did a whole album of murder ballads, cunningly entitled "Murder Ballads", and very good it is, too. If only I hadn't lost it...
johnny
Yeah it is pretty good.... But I prefer the quieter love song sorta stuff from Nick though....
Batman
I could never really get into Nick Cave, but maybe I'll try again. What's a good one to start with? I wasn't too fond of "The Boatman's Call"
johnny
It depends what you like. My most played NC&tBS songs are "Into My Arms", "Straight To You" & "Come Into My Sleep".

OLD 55
"The Night That The Lights Went Out In Georgia" was the first big "murder ballad" from my day. I nominated that in the Top Ten and nobody voted for it. .................................................. Murder ballads, or just murder songs ? I think you'd get a lot more replies if you changed it to that, Johnny. A ballad is basically a light, simple song having two or more verses, that tells a story. Just a suggestion ! berjo
"The Night That The Lights Went Out In Georgia" was the first big "murder ballad" from my day. Good pick! If not mistaken, that tune was considered for 'Cher' but Sonny turned it down for subject matter. He later produced Cher's "Half-Breed." hmmmm, somewhat contradictory I suppose. Farin
Die traurige Ballade von Susi Spakowski ("The Sad Ballad of Susi Spakowski") ~ Die Ärzte written about the ex-girlfriend of the drummer/singer... somehow I get the feeling that it wasn't an amicable breakup... Kevin
I don't think this guy wanted everyone to fly off and talk about their own murder related ballads ... but far be it from me to screw a thread up ! This is why threads never end sometimes ( though they shoud've long before ) ...
Farin
you know, the song is actually more of a Hate song, the murder is only additionally - and it's not even her (Susi) that gets murdered, rather she is the murderer and kills herself shortly after that... if you know the humour of this band, you'll realise that you shouldn't take ANY song of theirs too (or at all) seriously
