Lucky Posted February 17, 2009 Author Report Posted February 17, 2009 While looking for this song: Baby I'm Yours ~ Barbara Lewis (love it) I found this one: Baby I'm Yours ~ The Arctic Monkeys ( surprisly true, and pretty darn good)
Farin Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Have Love, Will Travel ~ The Sonics Have Love, Will Travel ~ Black Keys to both
MindCrime Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Any of the 6 covers from Nirvana's Unplugged in New York are better than the original, except for maybe Man Who Sold the World.
MindCrime Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 No Woman, No Cry ~ Fugees feat. Steve Marley You think it was better ?
Farin Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I often post covers that are good, but not necessarily better than the originals - mostly because of a lack of a cover thread without this restriction in this case I would say that original and cover are equally good
LeeBB Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I often post covers that are good, but not necessarily better than the originals - mostly because of a lack of a cover thread without this restriction in this case I would say that original and cover are equally good ANd there's a world of difference between Bob's original studio version, which wasn't great, and the classic 1975 live version ;-) LBB
MuzikTyme Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Even though this is an instrumental solo cover of the original, it, IMHO, runs circles around it . . . Scarborough Fair ~ Simon and Garfunkle Cover
Farin Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Mr. Grieves ~ TV on the Radio an a cappella cover of the Pixies' song of the same name
Farin Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 nice one, I hadn't heard that before and welcome to SF, MareLL
Farin Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Walk like an Egyptian ~ The Puppini Sisters bet you haven't heard a version like this yet
BlueAngel Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 "Man Next Door" - Massive Attack "Wild Horses" - The Sundays
Farin Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 "Wild Horses" - The Sundays I was just listening to that one a bit ago too
BlueAngel Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" done by Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer "Route 66" - Depeche Mode
bluesboy Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 I feel Tony Tribe beats the bunch and gives Neil a run for the money with this 1969 cover of Red Red Wine It's apples & oranges... Neil's (1968)
pinkstones Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends I'm sure that one has been mentioned before, but it craps all over the original, no offense to the Beatles intended. Brenda Lee - The End of The World I like Skeeter Davis's version, but Brenda's has a little more oomph to it, a little more *something* in her voice. Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good Most people don't know that this was a cover, and it is so much better than the original, to most people it doesn't exist anymore outside of her version.
edna Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 I agree with you about Brenda Lee and her cover... also partly about "With a little help..." ...I never liked this song and Cocker just makes it sligthly better. "tomorrow is a long time" is far better by Elvis than by Bob. I love The Walker' s cover of "Oh, lonesome me" better than Gibson' s or even Neil Young' s.
MindCrime Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Cocker just makes it sligthly better. I have to disagree with you edna, I never was a fan of Cockers, and I think he ruined all of the songs he's covered, especially Unchain My Heart.
edna Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 ...I thought I was the only person on Earth who dislikes Cocker...
Lucky Posted June 6, 2009 Author Report Posted June 6, 2009 Joe Cocker's take is better or even equal to very few originals in my opinion. I just cannot like that man. He's really the king of covers though. I wonder how many of his hits were actually original to him? Not many I don't believe. His version of Delta Lady (written by Leon Russell about Rita Coolidge), is supposed to be one of his best songs: Delta Lady ~ Cocker But here's the original: Delta Lady ~ Russell
chutzpah Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 "bird on a wire"... and I "love" "Mad dogs and Englishmen"And..."North Country Girl"...
