Batman
I think "In the Land of Grey and Pink" by Caravan should have been a big hit in the 70's. Also, I don't understand why the Thermals aren't more popular.
Lucky
I was there for the entire 70's Batman. Enilghten me, or remind me. Who were they, and is that an album or a song?
Batman
They were called a prog band but I'd consider them more of a folk band. What I mentioned was an album and a song. It's great! Give it a listen! http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=3108
johnny
The Pixies. They have had some popularity but I think it is because other bigger bands have named them as an influence.
Super Ry 71
Foghat. And Loggins & Messina; they had a lot of great folk/rock 'n' roll songs besides "You're Mama Don't Dance".
Sweet Jane 61
The Joy of Cooking! I love them, UncleJoe turned me on to them last year and I had no idea about them and I was around back in the 60's and 70's. Great sound, but never made it "big". This group was led by chicks and that is cool to begin with, but the sound was rocking and wild and a little hint of Janis. Joy of Cooking Samples of their songs. c_s_1987
Unsurprisingly, I'd have to say Cold Chisel. They are huge in Australia, but they probably would have been much more popular overseas if they didn't generally dislike touring. They are without doubt my favourite band of the 80s, but they also recorded some good stuff in the 70s and 90s.
TheLizard
I think I've said this many times before, but They Might Be Giants are severely underrated and they did so much more than the few songs people know them for (if people know them at all). Ombre Vivante
Japan I am aghast that not many music fans know about them or their music. They pretty much developed the New Romantic movement after being inspired by Roxy Music and David Bowie.
