Carl
I interviewed Floyd yesterday - much thanks to Ron for his help. It's really interesting how the term "Bubblegum" came to define this style of music. Much like "Liberal," the word has been manipulated to imply negative connotations and sweeping stereotypes. There are some great truths that will emerge when we put this together, but the jist of it is that 1910 Fruitgum is a real band with real talent who were into the likes of Hendrix and Clapton. In a weird fluke, the band who gave "bubblegum" it's name was authentic and had the misfortune of being lumped with the many studio groups that did not write or play. RonJonSurfer
I drove by the high school and the stage is up along the banks of the Rahway River. I've heard sound checks and music playing...this could only mean it is time to head over to the show.

RonJonSurfer
...Fun indeed...it was a beautiful summer night in Springfield, NJ. The summer concert featured opening band "The Larry Stevens Band" followed by The 1910 Fruitgum Company. The Larry Stevens Band www.larrystevensband.com performs mainly in NY, NJ and the Nashville area. His songs, both original and covers reflect the mix of Jersey Rocker, New York Folkie and Nashville Cat. Check out his website for more info. The 1910 Fruitgum Company is a tight, seasoned band that gets the crowd rocking in no time. They play a combination of covers from the 60's and 70's (I recall hearing Beatles, Beach Boys, Animals, Turtles, Doobie Brothers, Monkees, Steppenwolf and more) along with their original hits from the 60's. The boys played music that was a perfect backdrop for the gathering of young families and old geezers like me. I'd say the age range tonight was easily from around 6 months old to 80+. A splendid time was had by all. Little kids romped, danced and pranced to the music...even though they could not have know the music of the 1910 Fruitgum Company...it didn't matter...little kids dance to the beat that moves them...and tonight, they rocked their little bodies out. A spontaneous game of ring-around-the-rosie broke out and I can say I haven't seen that for some time....hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream, lemonade..this was a fine end of summer party. The final two songs of the night were smash hits "1-2-3 Red Light" and "Simon Says". A mass game of Simon Says took place during the finale. Check out the band at www.1910fruitgumcompany.com and enjoy a fine tribute to a unique and lasting band.

Floyd Marcus 1910 FGC
Thank you all for your nice comments and you guys for coming to the show. I've got to shamelessly promote the webcast from The Cannery Casino Las Vegas on Sept. 1st. Besides, you get to see Ron Dante(The Archies),The Ohio Express, Trini Lopez and others for $8 bucks. That's fair, unless you can get to Vegas. It's www.B2livetv.com/liveevents/music/bubblegumbonanza/billnow/asp I'll be back. Floyd 1910
