The seemingly unlikely pairing of Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Nas and Virginia-born Country singer Phil Vassar will all play "A Concert for Virginia Tech," set to take place September 6 on the university's campus. The concert is an effort to help the school come together and move forward from the tragic shootings that occurred there in April. The concert will be free to all current VT students, faculty and staff, as well as those who graduated during the spring and summer semesters.

"We're extremely grateful for the compassion and generosity of these artists who wished to create a very special event where our students, faculty and staff can come together to celebrate the spirit and resiliency of our university community as we begin a new academic year," University President Charles Steger said in a statement.

DMB drummer Carter Beauford said, "We have a profound respect for the incredible resolve and unwavering sense of hope the university community has shown, and are honored to have the opportunity to share this evening with Virginia Tech."

The artists will not be paid for their performances, though corporate sponsorships and the sale of commemorative items will help cover the cost of the event, according to Rolling Stone.

What a wonderful thing for these artists to do.
