Songs that have similar opening?

Recommended Posts

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad--Meat Loaf

Three Times a Lady--Commodores

Blue Bayou--Linda Ronstadt

An Innocent Man--Billy Joel

(I remember when the latter was on the chart, the radio station I listened to started playing what I thought was the latter and I sang out in jest, "I feel so bad, got a worried mind" and it turned out the station had just started playing "Blue Bayou"!)

Just What I Needed--The Cars

Stacy's Mom--Fountains of Wayne

Rock Of Ages - Def Leppard

Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) - The Offspring

Gluten Glieben Glauchen Globen. What a strange line. :P

Well, I assume that isn't exactly what you meant. But, a more serious example:

Something - The Beatles

The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin

The intro chord progression in these two songs is the same, which is somewhat unsurprising since Jimmy Page wrote The Rain Song as a response to George Harrison's comment that Led Zeppelin did not record enough ballads.

Piece of Mind----------Boston

Poem-------------------Taproot

Simple Kind of Man----Lynyrd Skynyrd

Always Somewhere---Scorpions

Piece of My Heart-----Janis Joplin

Wheels of Confusion--Black Sabbath

Ghost Busters----------Ray Parker Jr.

I Want a New Drug----Huey Lewis and the News

I Like to Rock----------April Wine

Day Tripper------------The Beatles

There's many more examples. Unfortunately, I'm only counting on one hand at the moment, hence the given five.

One example sticks out in my mind which may not qualify because it's the same band; The Who.

Ever tried singing Magic Bus and My Generation together? . . .

"People try to put us down

And my magic bus!"

They both go hand in hand.

There are 2 songs that begin with the lyrics, "If the sun refused to shine".

1) Led Zeppelin, "Thank You" - "If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you."

2) Jimi Hendrix, "If 6 was 9" - "If the sun refused to shine, I don't mind."

In each of the songs the second lines are also very similar:

1) "Thank You" - "When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me"

2) "If 6 was 9" - "If the mountains fell in the sea, let it be"

Good call....but have you seen the Davey Graham (or was it Bert Jansch?) ragtime video on YOU Tube where it is blindingly obvious that Page stole the intro to Stairway to Heaven from...it's pretty convincing. I'll go look for it.

Here it is...Davey Graham.

Lovely girl in the video!
