Paul Williams

Pop on over to our Paul Williams interview to find out how "Rainbow Connection" played a key role in the character development of Kermit The Frog. I'm a big Muppets fan from way back, so it was fascinating for me to hear about working with Jim Henson and just how much thought went into the songs. One thing I really like about this interview is that Paul didn't just say how great it was working with Henson, but he explained why. Paul is pretty much Muppet royalty, as he also appeared on the show in the first season.

Paul is interesting on many levels, and he did a great job explaining how he achieved ubiquity in the '70s as a singer, songwriter and actor. The lesson in "authenticity" is a great takeaway, especially coming from someone who has done it within the constraints of pop culture.

Some of Paul's accomplishments include writing the Love Boat theme song lyrics, acting in several movies, coming up with songs for Barbra Streisand, Three Dog Night and The Carpenteres, and developing the stage production of Happy Days.

Musical interlude, anyone?

Head full of good thoughts

Belly full of grub

Money in your pocket

When there ain't no hole in the washtub

Your nails won't break and your toes won't stub

You never get a fever

When there ain't no hole in the washtub

If you look to the good side

Fallin' down's a free ride

Slippin' and a-slidin' in the mud

If your back is hurtin'

I can say for certain

I'll be there to treat you to a soothin' back rub

When there ain't no hole in the washtub

Lunch with the uppercrust

Dinner at the club

High on the hog

When there ain't no hole in the washtub

Watermelon gardens, berries on a shrub

Cookies in the kitchen

When there ain't no hole in the washtub

I'll be there to treat you to a soothin' back rub!

When there ain't no hole in the washtub

If you look to the good side

Fallin' down's a free ride

Slippin' and a-slidin' in the mud

So it twists and contorts you

The barrel supports you

You can feed and clothe yourself

With a rub-a-dub-dub!

When there ain't no hole in the washtub

Ain't no hole in the washtub

Ain't no hole in the washtub
