Bodhis3mta3
I've covered this topic so many times with friends, I'm quickly prepared with my "Top Covers" list: 1 "Sympathy For The Devil" Jane's Addiction/Rolling Stones (MUST HEAR) 2 "I Will Survive" Cake/Gloria Gaynor 3 "Everybody Knows" Leonard Cohen/Concrete Blonde (tough call, original or cover - both excellent) 4 "Everybody Hurts" REM/The Corrs (Andrea's voice is so evocative...) 5 "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)" Eurythmics/Marilyn Manson & "Tainted Love" Soft Cell/Marilyn Manson (couldn't decide which Manson cover I liked better) There are probably more but those are right off the cuff
Sweet Jane 61
Marley does the best version, although I know of alot of people who prefer the Clapton cover. Some don't even know that it's a cover... That is so true, I remember once talking about Clapton's version was such a big hit for him and it was a Bob Marley tune, well I got a couple of calls from listeners saying oh no Clapton wrote it! He just had a bigger hit and people assume he wrote the tune. Thank God for people who know music to enlighten them!
Rayzor
Here's another cover from one of my favorite artists. She covers one of the heaviest bands: Nothing Else Matters - Bif Naked covering Metallica I think it's alright, she didn't mess it up.

bazooka
Quicksilver Messenger Service delivers an intensified version of Bo Diddley's Mona on the Happy Trails album. The entire other side of that Quicksilver original vinyl (or half of the CD) is variations on/permutations of Bo's Who Do You Love ------------ [smallest] from wikipedia[/smallest] : Ball of Confusion is among the Temptations' most covered songs, with versions by the Neville Brothers, Tina Turner (which hit #5 in Norway), Love and Rockets, Widespread Panic, Duran Duran, and Anthrax, among others. ------------ I think I've mentioned The Covers Project in previous threads. You can just select an artist to find the songs that artist has covered and which original songs were covered by other performers. It is pretty thorough and mostly accurate.
