Women Driven to Distraction by Men's Irritating Habits

CARDIFF, Wales, May 2/PRNewswire/ --

Do you think you have any irritating driving habits? A new survey has revealed that while half of women drivers believe they don't, 90% of them don't share that feeling when it comes to male drivers and their irritating habits.

Women's car insurance specialist Diamond surveyed both male and female motorists to find out what irritates them most about other road users and passengers of both genders, and women were certainly harsher about men than the other way around - although they didn't escape criticism entirely.

- 31% of women think the most irritating driving habit men have is speeding,

- 30% of women think the most irritating driving habit men have is losing their temper, but

- 29% of men think the most irritating driving habit women have is lacking courtesy to other road users.

Diamond managing director, Sian Lewis, said, "The old stereotype that men are always criticising women's driving has been turned on its head by these results, as it's definitely women who get the most irritated. However, the results do show something that isn't a surprise, men think they have less irritating driving habits than women."

When it comes to passengers, male passengers irritate two thirds of women. Of those, 35% of women are driven mad by men who criticise their driving and 17% can't stand it when their male passenger tries to give them directions when they already know where they're going. Less than half of the men questioned found female passengers irritating, but having their driving criticised was also what annoyed them most. www.diamond.co.uk

I agree.

I don´t drive since so long ago that no man can say anything about me. Except that being the only one who doesn´t drink alcohol, it would be nice if I decided to drive, so the rest could drink all they want... :P

I don't actually notice too many irritating habits between men and women in or around my age group. The ones that kill me are the teenagers and young 20-somethings who tailgate, speed, dart in and out of traffic, and have those really loud speakers that make the other cars around them vibrate with the bass. Intriguingly, though, of those that I've noticed do these things, 99% of them are young men.

And yes, I remember being a teenager and 20-something, and I did stupid things, too. I'm just sayin'....

My husband just recently admitted to me that he thinks I'm a better driver than he is. I wondered out loud why I never got that vibe from him and he said it was because he is often uncomfortable in the passenger seat.

I think in general, men see driving as a control and power thing, and women just see it as a means to get somewhere. I do get frustrated and stressed driving, but since I do most of the driving with my daughter in the car, I have mellowed.

I do think that in general woman do get a little more distracted than men while driving, though. I have caught myself not paying attention to the road at times....not safe.

The guy I'm dating (boyfriend?... maybe :) ) tells me he's a lousy driver. He's right. But he's a worse passenger.

On the courtesy thing... over the past couple of years I've done a little informal "research" about who is more courteous to pedestrians, i.e. people who are crossing the parking lot, the street, whatever. In my opinion, men are much more likely to stop to allow someone to cross in front of them than women. Particularly in a parking lot. For every 10 men that'll stop to let you walk by, only 1 woman will. I wonder if that has anything to do with the "victim" attitude: women have more of a victim mentality and are afraid to stop for any reason.

Thoughts?

I never noticed that there was a gender difference in letting people cross. I normally do let people go. I don't think I've ever not let someone go on purpose.

Maybe guys let ladies cross so they can check them out?
