Dappled Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Farin, Man in the Moon is one of my fav REM songs! Also, you're right about the Poets' song. It is 20 seconds too short!
OLD 55 Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 The Poets, hey ? I've never heard them before, but I see in one of my books they had another minor Hit in 1966 - "She Blew A Good Thing" (No comments about the Title, puhleez) - so you were correct about the era Phil. I'll listen to it some more. The only other song that I really found interesting was that Bowie one, which I wasn't familar with before. I'm not much good on Album Tracks. Of course, I know 'Sugar Baby Love. Has that been tried before
Dappled Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Near You - The Migil 5 The music! Not everybody's cuppa tea!
Dappled Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 I might nominate Together by P J Proby, the American who sounded more Merseybeat than most Liverpudlian bands. Listen to the song over the weekend. Isn't it great?
edna Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 ^ I love it!!! It will get my vote if you nominate it...
Farin Posted May 4, 2007 Author Report Posted May 4, 2007 ^ we always wanted to tell the truth here (opposed to being merely polite), so I have to say that the chances are very slim that I will vote for it either myself or someone else will nominate this as soon as we're sure that Peachy is back (it's gonna need all the voters it can get ) Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat) ~ Digable Planets
OLD 55 Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 The old trouser spltter. I don't really care for his Rock version of "Together" (I love Connie Francis' version) but I'd sure as heck vote for "Hold Me", or "Somewhere" or "Maria" from 'West Side Story', Lars. And Martin and Jenny, it's RAP ! Need I say more ?
Lucky Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Honestly, of the above songs (since my last comment), the only one I would vote for is "Man On The Moon". I love REM, and that is one of their best! Shawna has converted me to a Roger lover, and Banditos is a great song. However Shawna, (please don't hit me! ) I probably would not vote him into the top ten. Only because he is so unknown to many, and his songs haven't had any airplay to speak of. Geez, honest is tough sometimes! When I nominate a song that is unfamiliar to many here, it is usually a song that is/was regionally popular in my area. Meaning that it has recieved airplay, and is a well known song to some, just not nation or world wide.
Shawna Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 When I nominate a song that is unfamiliar to many here, it is usually a song that is/was regionally popular in my area. Meaning that it has recieved airplay, and is a well known song to some, just not nation or world wide. "Banditos" was huge here in the southwest when it came out around 1995, so maybe it's a regional thing, too. Glad to know you're a convert.
Lucky Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Tell you what... I'll vote for Banditos, if you'll vote for Lakeshore Drive . I can't get anyone to love this song like I do! It's a midwest thing.
TheLizard Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 The Devil Comes Back to Georgia- Mark O'Connor and Friends If you like the original, you'll love this sequel. I think it's better than the original, mainly because Mark O'Connor is the world's undisputed master of the fiddle, and his solo at the end blows my mind every time. And I doesn't hurt that his "Friends" consist of Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, and of course Charlie Daniels.
Lucky Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Lizard, that's just great! I've heard this before. He's pretty amazing, huh? Talk about flying fingers. Are you going to nominate this? I possibly could vote for it, with a few more listens.
phil Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 ^ Ditto on that. Marc O'Connor is a great talent. He has A Fiddle camp every year in San Diego.
Farin Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 I'm still pretty clueless as to what to nominate next week maybe this one? Blue Orchid ~ The White Stripes (the video is pretty... umm... strange ) help me out here, please
OLD 55 Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 TOP TEN CONSULTATION FEE SCHEDULE (IN U.S.$): SURE THING #1 $10.00 GOOD CHANCE FOR #1 $5.00 TWO SURE TOP TENS $5.00 ONE SURE TOP TEN $3.00 TWO POSSIBLE TOP TENS $2.00 ONE POSSIBLE TOP TEN $1.00 Trying to figure out that Video Clip....Priceless.
Farin Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 well, if it should come to this, I would nominate the SONG, not the video
OLD 55 Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Was there a song I was too busy watching the video. (10% discount to you on the above prices). Goodnight All.
Farin Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 (edited) yes, there was... that peculiar sound in the background, you know? PS I don't need to pay you anything, since I'd simply make the changes myself Edited May 6, 2007 by Guest just saw Darryl's latest edit
edna Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Blue Orchid ~ The White Stripes(the video is pretty... umm... strange ) Oh, it´s the high heels... they´re killing her... The song isn´t bad but it´s not my cup of tea... I´ve heard other White Stripes songs I liked better...
Lucky Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 I think I may nominate this one hit wonder this time. It was hugely popular. I remember many nights out, jumping up to dance the second the first strains of this song were heard. This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide ~ The Kings Whatcha think?
edna Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 I don´t know the band nor the song but I like it...
Farin Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 hey that's not bad it depends on the competetion, but it could make my list
Lucky Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Ok, testing the waters for a future Leon Russell nomination.... Lady Blue
