edna Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 and also "The Dangerous Type" - The Cars and "Cry to me" - Solomon Burke I will listen to the songs later on, and comment too... sorry, I don´t have much time lately... but I will, as soon as I have some peace to turn the volume on, I will.
edna Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 April Wine: I love both songs, I knew "Could have been a lady" and I´d give it 7/10. "Roller" is a good pievce of rock too... GrandFunk Railroad: "We´re an American band" is a classic, I sure like it though I´m a bit fed up with it cause it´s one of my husband´s fave songs and they also play it with the band. Goodnight Goodnight: I didn´t know them and I would surely give it 9/10 The Hives: I just discovered them. "Die Alright" is a good song too, I like that band, they sound like they might have some better songs... Into The Night - Benny Mardones I´m sorry, Darryl, but it´s not my cup of tea at all... I know you´ll understand it... Rodney Carrington - Show Them To Me He´s cute... nice little song... he´s very nice to dedicate those romantic lines to us, girls and women... but not among my faves. I know you will understand me too, Ken... Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy Now, I like this one!! I might even vote for it... I love his voice and the tempo. Yes, I will definitively give it some points... Badfinger - Come and Get it Laurie, of course I love this song... Audioslave - Cochise I don´t like it very much, really. I´m not in my heavy days anymore... Peachy!!! ...both your videos have been removed... I´m sorry I couldn´t watch them before...
Jenny Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I Looooove "Cry To Me", edna. That song makes me swoon.
edna Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 My Future Nominations again: "2000 Man" - The Rolling Stones "Poison Ivy"- The Coasters "Say it ain´t so, Joe" - Murray Head "The Dangerous Type" - The Cars "Cry to me" - Solomon Burke "Sex Bomb" - Tom Jones
Dappled Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 My Future Nominations again: "2000 Man" - The Rolling Stones "Poison Ivy"- The Coasters "Say it ain´t so, Joe" - Murray Head "The Dangerous Type" - The Cars "Cry to me" - Solomon Burke "Sex Bomb" - Tom Jones Poison Ivy is one of my fav songs, Edna! I also like the Stones', Hollies' and Manfred Mann's versions.
Dappled Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Manfred Mann's version I owned the 45 once! Enjoy!!
OLD 55 Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 How about the Searchers ? Looks like everyone's covered it, but I like The Coasters best. The biggest version in Australia was by local, the late Billy Thorpe.
The Seeker Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Manfred Mann's version I owned the 45 once! Enjoy!! I've never heard their version before-- I like it! Thanks!
edna Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 I´ll have to download it tomorrow at work, my computers just won´t...
Dappled Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 These will probably be my nominations for next week: Sticks and Stones - The Zombies Listen to the organ solo - pure Argent! Tired of Trying, Bored with Lying, Scared of Dying - Manfred Mann
edna Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 I just listened to the Zombies song, I like it!! I don´t like that much "Poison Ivy" by Manfred Mann though... Now I have to wait till I can listen to the other MM song...
OLD 55 Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Sorry Lars. I know both songs but neither is among my favourites of those Groups. Anyone out there like The Turtles ? Well, everyone probably likes 'Happy Together', but my favourites other than that are 'Elenore' - can't find a good clip of it - and She'd Rather Be With Me. Also one of my all time favourites, featuring Lead Vocals by the great Johnny Maestro. I'm ashamed to say that I forgot about him in the 'Best Voices' Thread ! Worst That Could Happen - Brooklyn Bridge Please tell me what you think of them, as I'll probably nominate them next week !
Farin Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 (edited) I'm not much of a fan of the Turtles, "Happy Together" sure is a nice song but that's about it, but "She'd rather be with me", while certainly no bad song, just doesn't grab me... and, I'm sorry, but the Brooklyn Bridge song is just too far from my usual musical diet... I, myself, thought of nominating Sitting, Waiting, Wishing ~ Jack Johnson thoughts? Edited July 8, 2007 by Guest
edna Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I love Jack Johnson´ s song... and I also like a lot the Turtles´ "She´d rather be with me". I don´t like the Brooklyn Bridge´s song though...
The Seeker Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I love the Turtles. I'll put She'd Rather Be With Me high on my list. The Brooklyn Bridge song isn't that bad, but I don't know if I'd vote for it.
OLD 55 Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Thanks for your thoughts guys and gal. Probably Joe and I might be the only ones who'd vote for 'Worst That Could Happen'. The lead singer is the same guy (Johnny Maestro) who became famous with The Crests' "Sixteen Candles". Know that one ? It's from the late 50s, but has been used in a couple of Movies, I know. Anyway, I've gone ahead and nominated The Turtles.
Lucky Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Darryl, you spoke too soon. I know of at least two more votes you'd have gotten for The Worst That Could Happen. That's my era sweetie, I love it!
CanAm Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Sorry Lars. I love the Turtles, Darryl!! Along with The Lovin' Spoonful, The Young Rascals, The Mamas & The Papas and The Byrds, The Turtles were the cream of the "folk rock" crop. I'll certainly vote for "She'd Rather Be With Me" if you nominate it for one of the Top Tens. Although Johnny Maestro has an excellent voice, I'm not enamoured of the song "Worst That Could Happen". It's a little too schmaltzy for me.
_Laurie_ Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 One of the guys that lives at the house I work at was listening to The Byrds yesterday.....I asked him if he had the radio on, he said "No, I just bought The Byrds box set today, it's called "There Is A Season"....5 cd's plus a great book of photos and info on the band....He said it was kind of expensive...I told him, it was worth it!!
Jenny Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 I would definitely vote for Jack Johnson. I have heard the Brooklyn Bridge song, but it's kind of nightclubbish/Tom Jones-ish for me. The Turtles one was cute, though. I don't know if I'd vote for it, but it would definitely be on my "consider" list.
Farin Posted July 9, 2007 Author Report Posted July 9, 2007 I would definitely vote for Jack Johnson. make that 'will' (hopefully)
