CanAm Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 What It Is - Mark Knopfler I love this song by a very, IMO, underrated artist. I also love the video because it was shot in and around Edinburgh, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and, coincidentally, the city in which I was born.
edna Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 "I´ve seen that movie too" - Elton John will be one of my future nominations. I will listen to Phil´s and CanAm´s nominations later on, when I can turn on the volume (it´s very early here) Hello, Phil and Ian!
Lucky Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 Hey Phil!! I'm dating myself a little bit, but I really like Glen Campbell. CanAm, you, phil and I are all together agewise. So we are all dated, apparently. I like Glen too! Phil, I like Twitty's original, but this one is great too!
Lucky Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 I fell in love with this band and it's leader back in the 90's. not much commercial success, but they had a big cult following. Mark Sandman collapsed and died onstage at the age of 47. The end of Morphine. Super Sex ~ Morphine Honey White ~ Morphine These are 2 of their most popular songs.
phil Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 CanAm, always loved Knopfler's playing. That is a good tune. Edna, that sounds like the 70's Elton. Good stuff. Lucky, thanks for Morphine songs. I did not know too much about them, but I like bands who push the envelope. They have a good sound.
edna Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 "I´ve seen that movie too" - Elton John will be one of my future nominations. Probably this one too: "Tired of toeing the line" - Rocky Burnette and this one: "(There´s gonna be a) Showdown" - The New York Dolls
CanAm Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Here are two songs by, IMO, an underrated Canadian band. Trust Yourself - Blue Rodeo Till I Am Myself Again - Blue Rodeo
phil Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 That's a nice sounding band. Did they ever make it in the States?
CanAm Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 I don't believe they ever made it big in the U.S., but at least one of their songs was featured in the movie Postcards From The Edge. Meryl Streep (one of the movies stars) is or was a big fan of the band.
_Laurie_ Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 I'm feeling a little soulful tonight... Everybody Plays The Fool - The Main Ingredient
CanAm Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 I haven't heard this song in ages. It's a great tune, Laurie. It evokes many fond memories.
Farin Posted June 15, 2007 Author Report Posted June 15, 2007 or maybe even this one? Lemon Tree ~ Fool's Garden
edna Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 I like Morphine and Blue Rodeo, and I still have to listen to other songs. I like Fool´s Garden too. I need one hour of peace at home so I can listen twice to every song and give you all my opinion about them... I´ll do it this weekend.
edna Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Oh, and I like Cake and Mark Knopfler... my vote will depend on other´s nominations. Sometimes I even nominate my songs and when it comes to voting, there are two or three I love better than mine, so I can never tell...
Levis Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 I love Lemon Tree of course... that goes without saying. And Cake is always good Brimful of Asha - Cornershop (good quality audio) Listen
Farin Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 of COURSE I'll vote for semi-obscure 90s one hit wonders
Levis Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 VERY good... coincidentally I'll vote for them too.
_Laurie_ Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Super Duper Love - Joss Stone My daughter wanted me to nominate this one...I like it!...
Jenny Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I haven't gotten through all of them yet, but I like "Everybody Plays The Fool", "Never There", and "Lemon Tree". That song could have come straight out of the '60's. "Super Duper Love" definitely has my vote!
OLD 55 Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 And I'd vote for 'Tired Of Toein' The Line' and 'Everybody Plays The Fool'.
