bazooka
.....Some of bazooka's nominations remind me of why I like some old stuff....the more I hear, the more I learn. And I'm making an effort to move my noms beyond the 60s/70's. Runaway Train (‘93) was one of my choices. Joan Armatrading has been a favorite for years. She’s not much to watch, but minimize the video and listen to her remarkable voice and the great backup musicians. She has a new Blues-Rock CD coming soon. CanAm
I don't know what all the fuss is about! I've listened to most of the clips of more "recent" songs that have been nominated, but I just don't like most of them. It's not even that I am indifferent to them, I REALLY don't like them. There have been a few notable exceptions like Ugly Kid Joe, Weezer and Richard Ashworth, but that's about it. The fact that I don't like them though, is neither here nor there. Obviously, many of the younger sonfactors like them and that's great. It would be a boring old world if we all liked the same things. Most of my recent nominations have "BOMBED" but it doesn't really bother me. I like songs for so many different reasons. Some songs evoke very fond memories while others have great, catchy melodies that make me want to tap my feet or get up and dance. Still others have great lyrics and haunting melodies. It might be interesting at some point to have our younger members nominate more modern songs which only we oldsters get to vote on. In addition, we would have to give the reasons for our selections. Then, perhaps, we older (and not necessarily wiser) members could nominate songs by artists with which our young sonfactors may not be familiar. Then, they could vote on these songs, telling us which ones they like (and why) and which ones they hate (and why). That's my two cents on the subject. Lucky
CanAm, I actually think that is a wonderful idea. I honestly give all the nominations a chance, whether they are 50's songs (before my time), 60's/70's/80's (my era) or 90's and 00's. I will vote for newer songs, when I feel they deserve it. I did last week, and watch me, There's at least 1 that is going to get my vote this week. I think part of it is that the olders are just that... older. We've been hearing a lot of these songs for a lot of years. They've had a long time to make an impression on us. There's one other thing to take into consideration. Rock and Roll, by definition, is controversial. We didn't like the same music as our parents (in general), and since I could be the parent of many of you youngers, you probably aren't going to like the same music that I like (in general). Just because I don't vote for something doesn't mean that by your nominations you haven't opened my eyes to something new, as I would hope some of my nominations might do for you. and that's my two cents. OLD 55
Thanks CanAm and Lucky. I always listen to/watch every video clip of the nominated songs that I don't know. I'll even nominate a song in German next Top Ten, which I think most of us will know.

OLD 55
Just as long as we don't overcomplicate it Maybe as a 'Special' Top Ten some time. Not in a regular Ten. If it ain't broke don't fix it is my motto.
Shawna
I was actually thinking of an "experiment" aside from the Top Ten altogether. Maybe a different thread, just for the one time.
Lucky
You are right Darryl. It does sounds like a great special ten though!
OLD 55
Fine Shawna (and Lucky)! I'll go along with whatever. I misunderstood, thinking that it was being suggested to incorporate it in a regular Ten. My name is Peaches And I'm the best. All the DJs Want to feel my... But that might give them Cardiac arrest. OLD 55
You'd have to ask Peaches, but I reckon it has to be zest. What else ? I hate those puzzling signatures that some people have. Also I was subtly (?) changing the subject.
Jenny
I like CanAm's idea.....I think we should try it. Just one question....where will the dividing line be set between "older" and "younger"? Remember, we girls are sensitive about our age. Well, not me...I'm only 29 (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).
The Seeker
You know, I much prefer, uh, older people's music.
Levis
I really don't think the division is based on AGE.
Farin
not a bad idea in principle... but if you notice nominations by the 'younger' people like Fin, TimLizzy, Namahage, Katie, Elvy, Chris, Jenny or Peaches then they nominate, to a great part at least, 'older' music... so where would you set the line between 'nominator' and 'voter'? Jenny
I think it would be a good learning experience for everyone. Even if you're a teenager into older music, you would have to think about what songs of today you would put up to nominate. Maybe if we broke it up inot three groups by what decade you were a teenager in, like 50's/60's, 70's/80's or 90's/00's. I was a teenager in the '80's, so I would have to pick two '80's songs, etc. Nominators couldn't vote, only the people who fall into the other decades....something like that, maybe?
