OLD 55
OH ! I knew it was about a French 'lady of the night', but I really didn't know the meaning of the French words. Still it's pretty tame by today's standards. That's not why I nominated it BTW. It's a fun, vibrant song. Patti LaBelle has a wonderful voice. Dappled
Aha! And chocolate is an aphrodasiac (I can't spell I know), but marmalade??
Farin
Still it's pretty tame by today's standards. that's because edna used a polite translation but what I always found much stranger was the "voulez-vous" part because it sounds rather formal, wouldn't "veux-tu" more appropriate? edna
"Voulez vous" is better, I believe. French people are very polite and they don´t say "tu" to everybody... hard to translate that into English, when "you" means "tu", "vous", "vous (tous)"... OLD 55
Et tu Farin ? And what about Marmalade,as Dappled said, you French scholars. Why does she call herself that ? Is it a French word too ? I have it on my toast each morning, but it's not 'French Toast'. Gitchi Gitchi Ya Ya Ya.
edna
"Marmalade" is an English word, you say "confiture" in French... but you can also say "marmelade"...

I think that's only because of her 'job'... you know, they give each other names like "Sugar Honey" "La Belle" ( ) or "Lady Marmalade"

French people are very polite and they don´t say "tu" to everybody... hard to translate that into English, when "you" means "tu", "vous", "vous (tous)"... If they ask like that there's no real need for politeness anymore.
OLD 55
Nah, doesn't sound right having 'confiture' on my toast, edna. Now here's a French speaking Irishman. I should have taken French instead of Latin, although it does come in handy for crossword puzzles. Amo, Amas, Amat.

OLD 55
Bless you, my child - but you have to be dead first. IF my other Nomination, Massachusetts, gets to #1, that would be a Miracle.
edna
Oh... I know so little about religion... I´m give my vote to "Massachusetts"... I don´t know if it´ll be 1, 2, 3 or 10, but I will.

I should have taken French instead of Latin, although it does come in handy for crossword puzzles. Amo, Amas, Amat. In German there is both: it's "Konfitüre" if there are still some pieces of fruit in it, otherwise it's "Marmelade"

OLD 55
Thanks All ! I think I'm a bit old to be learning another language. I think you're all pretty 'saintly' here. Being nice to each other is what it's all really about, isn't it ? I value all of the friendships I've made here. Goodnight All !
