TheLizard
This is the first piece I've created in a long time that I've actually liked enough to share with people. Take whatever meaning from it you like. All the people in their houses Every elephant and mouse is Just a figment of a dream There is no world, there’s only me All the rules that have been written Every fool who has been smitten They don’t matter anymore There is no world, there’s only me And the vast Pacific Ocean And every product, sum, and quotient Ever produced by a mind It was naught but fantasy There’s no proof of your existence So I continue my resistance Your logic doesn’t work here There is no you, there’s only me There is no us, there’s only me There is no world, there’s only… me
Kevin
I like it- but it's a bit self-serving , don't you think ? Or was that your intention- or how you are feeling ? Good stuff . though - looking forward to more !
Uncle Joe
I like it. It's not likely to win her back but I like it. And at least while there is you there is hope.
TheLizard
It wasn't exactly directed at a "her", more like a group of people, but not exactly that either. It's really hard to describe my inspiration for this, that's why I said you can take your own meaning out of it. Glad you liked it, though! Shawna
I like this, Liz - a lot! My interpretation is you are only responsible for your own reality. What is someone else's reality is not necessarily yours unless you make it so. It's not a kiss-off, or a kiss-up, but a statement of fact - there is, indeed, only us, each independent of another, no matter how attached we may be to someone else. I love the word usage - especially the rhyme of "ocean" with "quotient" - that was great. Nicely done.
TheLizard
Thanks Shawna! Out of all the outside interpretations I've gotten for this, your's is the closest to what was going through my mind. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it! Steel2Velvet
I read it as if coming from the POV of a cynic, or one so isolated due to circumstances that they cloak themselves in stealth to avoid further pain. It isn't a pretty or sunny story of life, but for some, it is their reality. Kind of an Eleanor Rigby feel to this. Nice work, Tim.
Tenacious_Peaches
I dig it, TimLizzy. It's very bleak, but you don't strike me as a bleak kind of a cat. It's great that you can express another, darker side of you so eloquently. You have a real talent, Tim. Keep it coming!
Lucky
I like it also TimLizzy! It's spare, and to the point, which fits completely with what you are trying to say I think. For me it just means that all of us, no matter the circumstances, at the base level, just "are".
