Now, this is something local that has been going on, and im not sure if its hit yalls neck of the woods yet, can i hear some feedback from this.

Truthfully it doesnt affect me at all, but heck, you know if one state does it, they all start to try...or at least the bible belt does.

This is an Article from The Huntsville Time here in Alabama, our local paper.

I call a cease-fire in the war on sex toys

Huntsville Times

We're one step closer to a ban on the sale of sex toys in Alabama. But does anybody still care?

Last week, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta upheld Alabama's 1998 sex law. The court said states have a "legitimate rational basis" for making rules to preserve public morality.

That law bans nude dancing, limits where strip clubs and X-rated theaters can go, and bans the sale of any device whose main purpose is to stimulate human genitals.

Hmmm. Does that make Viagra a sex toy?

The law's main targets in 1998 were the strip clubs popping up just outside cities and towns across Madison County. According to Times news archives, the toy ban was an add-on.

Controlling strip clubs and X-rated theaters had wide support then and still does. Although some people enjoy these establishments, I understand, most people think that they're bad news and magnets for trouble.

It's the sex toy ban that seems odd today. Here's why.

In all the years since the law was passed, the only time Huntsville's few sex shops made news was when a court ruled in the ongoing battle over the law. The rest of the time, the shops do their business and no one seems to care. You go there if you want their products; you don't if you don't.

Think about the things we do worry about in Huntsville today: gun violence, drug use, school taxes, BRAC, the war in Iraq, the price of gasoline, traffic, school buses, to name just a few. Is a sex toy shop anywhere on our radar? Have we seen even one headline in the last eight years saying, "Sex toy linked to crime spree"?

Nope. So, has time revealed this part of the law as a solution without a problem?

What we don't know, of course, is what life would be like without the law. Would there be sex toy shops on every corner if would-be entrepreneurs hadn't been restrained by the law? Would we be explaining to little Timmy what that thing is in the window between the Chinese takeout and laundry at our local strip mall? Not good.

Still, making war on these products is a pointless trip in the Wayback Machine. We're stopping local people from selling things that can be ordered online and delivered to the front door. Or so I'm told.

I been to a couple of those shops for fun with my ex, there was some funny stuff in there, more gag gifts than anything!

Now, in my point of view, and i know this subject is very racy for Songfacts and i apologize if anybody is offended. But, in my point of view...wouldnt sex toys bring down the rate of teen sex and teen pregnancies. Of course, that cant happen if stores and places are starting to pass out free condoms.

I'm sorry and I don't want to offend anyone, but my first reaction to reading about a "Sex Toy Ban" was:

it just seems to be one of these "funny American laws", you know like "unmarried women are forbidden to parachute on sunday" or something ;)

I don't know if they would bring down teen pregnancies though... do you think they would rather use toys than the "real thing"?

I agree that free condoms would be more helpful in that aspect

^ I thought the same thing b-f!

They had some kind of convention here in NY at a a church...the convention was called "Pancakes and Porn" .....which I thought was also a strange name for church go-ers...They were discussing how to shut down the Porn Theaters and Shops that are too close to residential areas....While they had breakfast, and served pancakes and sausage....strange

Now if this isn't just plain silly. Another example of our tax dollars at work.

If you outlaw dildos, only outlaws will have them.

This could get as controversial as the gun control thread!!

Yes, indeed . Don't touch Bubba's guns - but get those sex toys the hell out of here !

Perhaps a Constitutional Ammendment may be more appropriate ...
