It looks like the biggest backlash has been against The Beatles ! I haven't been keeping score (except for the Top 3), but just glancing through it appears likely that only one song of theirs will make the Ten.

:P

Don't they get played on Kiddy Time FM ???

Goodnight All. :)

Farin, those 80s and 90s songs just aren't long enough to get FM Airplay. What have we got...

November Rain /GNR, what else ?

Probably the only Beatles song that would get played is Hey Jude; what's that - about 7 minutes?

Or they could play all of Side 2 of Abbey Road from 'You Never Give Me Your Money' - just about one big Medley.

I really am off to bed now ! Look forward to seeing the Top Ten in the morning.

In any case, and for those who want to beat Stairway  we should agree on the nominations. Just one or two Beatles songs, otherwise we lose our strenght...

Together we'll stand

Divided we'll fall

Come on now people

Let's get on the ball

And work together

Come on, come on

Let's work together

(Now now people)

Because together we will stand

Every boy, every girl and man

I can't really talk about the radio stuff, since FM is (practically) the only type we have here

and it's true that most newer songs are under 6 minutes (there are plenty exceptions, but not many famous ones)

but what does radio airplay have to do with how many Beatles songs there are in the Ten? ;) :P

you guys crack me up with all your talk about backlash and keeping the Beatles out of the Ten... for my part, I have yet to nominate a single Beatles song or Led Zeppelin song, I've nominated only one Stones song (which made the Ten), and nothing by the Who or Pink Floyd. It's just musical preference - I'm not a big fan of those bands. I don't have anything against them, just not my favorites.

1. Fire -– The Jimi Hendrix Experience ... This song also displays the colossal talents of Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell

2. Hold Your Head Up -– Argent

3. Going Down -- Freddie King

4. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) -- The Rolling Stones

5. Things We Said Today -- The Beatles

6. Going Up to the Country, Paint My Mailbox Blue -- Taj Mahal

7. Be-Bop-A-Lula -- Gene Vincent

8. Stairway to Heaven -- Led Zeppelin ... This is an undeniable masterpiece. The way I arrange my Top Ten isn't really about which song is best. I just imagine the next ten songs from the list that I'd want to hear right now today ( the order would likely be different tomorrow)

9. I Wish -- Stevie Wonder

10.Sky Pilot -- Eric Burdon & The Animals

I'm with you, Shawna. I don't think of it as a "backlash", it's just the way it goes. Some of you put too much thought into this...it's supposed to be FUN!

Yes, I really do that. And the worst part is that I know that I do that, and still I can't seem to help myself...

So it's always good to read such 'reminder' posts, like yours or Shawna's

I'd like to add my two cents to the backlash voting thing....

I never design my voting to be against any artist or song. My voting and nominating is done in this very scientific way: I imagine driving, and listening to the radio. If it's a song that I would crank the volume up, and sing to at the top of my lungs, then it's top ten worthy. If not... it doesn't get my vote!! :)

With the exception of The Beatles, I couldn't agree more, Shawna! I've never been a big fan of Floyd or Zeppelin, and while there are several Stones songs that I really like, they are, by no means, my favourite group. Therefore, I find it gratifying whenever a dark horse upsets one of "The Giants".
