Ombre Vivante
Yes, I know. I can read movie credits Courtney Love auditioned for Nancy, and was considered a top contender for the part, but the studio wanted some one else. Courtney got the role of Nancy's friend Gretchen and was in the movie briefly in a few scenes. Who said you couldn't read movie credits? I thought you confused the lead actress with someone else. It didn't occur to me that after watching a controversial film about a music band, that the only thing you'd comment on would be an extra character
Steel2Velvet
Watched Seabiscuit on cable last night. That is a very well made movie of a great story! However, since it is a metaphor for a period in their history, it is possible Americans would have stronger appreciation for the movie than those of other nationalities, although the Depression was felt everywhere. 8.5/
MindCrime
The Big Lebowski - 9/10 I didn't pay much attention to this the first time I saw it a decade ago, but I really enjoyed it this time around, though the plot was a bit predictable. The movie was excellent, but the book... crikey. The first time I read it, it literally kept me up nights anxious to see what happened next. The second time, same reaction, even though I knew what happened next. Third time, hadn't faded. It remains one of the best books I've ever read, the writing cannot be topped. I don't really think it has anything to do with nationality. I think it's more to do with fans of the underdog, and the little red horse that could. Lucky
I'm ready to both watch the film & read the book again now. The Runaways .... pretty darn good. 8/10 Shutter Island .... 8/10. Everyone I've spoken to didn't like it. I did. It's exactly the kind of book I'd enjoy (story wise, I'm not comparing!), but of course now I know what happens. I may read it anyway. MindCrime
I own Shutter Island on DVD but haven't made time to watch it yet. Same goes for Book of Eli.

Yeah, marmots and nihilists and Kenny Rogers singing his way through a hallucination/acid trip is totally predictable. Although I do suppose a porn movie called Log Jammin' probably is predictable. That's just like, your opinion man, but nothing the Coens have ever done could ever be qualified as "predictable" marmots and nihilists and Kenny Rogers singing his way through a hallucination/acid trip And cut off toes and lingon berry pancakes and a suitcase of undies, and the theme to Branded, and Shabbos, and the Port Huron statement, and achievers, and rugs, and caucasians, and "zesty enterprise"... I freaking love that movie
Jenny
Took the kiddo to see "Despicable Me". It was sweeter than I thought, but still very good and the minions were funny! 8/10.
Shawna
I just watched "Black Snake Moan." What a wreck of a movie. I'll give it a 7/10 because even though it was fairly horrible to sit through, I had to know how it ended, so I couldn't make myself make it stop. I guess that's a good thing. But seriously... what a wreck.

Batman
I've heard the Big Lebowski's plot called "confusing" but never "predictable."
Ombre Vivante
The book was better A coupla days ago I saw a weird movie from the Czech Republic (I think) called "Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders." Alls I can say is "wow!" It was weeeeeird with all kinds of visual and plot elements ranging from surrealism, symbolism to vampires and... incest. Costumes and make-up were probably the best aspect. There is a score and a few songs, but all I can recall now is the music and song at the final scene. It's definitely not for everyone... maybe not for anyone who isn't already into watching bizarre films that have little to no continuity. Nowadays, with instant gratification of sfx and large Hollywood productions, this kind of movie would not fare well and audiences may not be as receptive, but I think it's worth a try, even if it's in small doses (i.e., you don't have to watch it in one sitting) just to mire at its bizarre quality. ... and, yes, there IS a book this film is based on (a Gothic fairy tale of sorts)

bluesboy
I'll say 3 out of 10 for The Bounty Hunter. At best, a waste of time.
Ombre Vivante
Reminds me of a colorized version of "Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo in the Forbidden Zone". It's not an easy movie to find. I'll have to check Netfix again. But, more importantly... ... how much better was the book?
RyanTurtle
Just watched Die Hard 2 for the first time. Somehow it slipped by for all these years. . . . Not sure what to think. I mean, not as gritty and fun as the first Die Hard. Not as intense as With a Vengeance. Just kind of so-so I'd give it a 5 or 6/
Carl
Inception: 8/10 Two hours in, I wasn't sure if I was going to love or hate this movie, but they pulled it together at the end. Could have used some more editing, but a very good movie.
RyanTurtle
Just watched Kick-Ass! I'm a big fan of Millar, and I liked the graphic novel a lot. I was pretty impressed! I'd give it an 8. Nick Cage was surprisingly good, which is very unlike him.
_Laurie_
Orphan...OMG..FREAKY! ....and very scary!....I give it 7/10...I'd rate it higher but the husband in the movie was just so unbelievably stupid..so points off for that...
MindCrime
I liked Orphan, it was interesting but I didn't believe the one plot twist that came with the phone call from the orphanage. I agree about the stupidity of the husband being unbelievable.
Jenny
I watched "Kill Bill, Part 1" on TV last night. Believe it or not, I have not seen a Tarantino flick prior to this. I don't know what rating to give it or what opinion to have of it, but I know that I got hooked and I'm going to go crazy until I see part 2. Will have to go rent it tonight.
