This answer seems tough, so let me re-cap: This rocker met a future co-vocalist while he was on Broadway as John Belushi's undertstudy. Clue 1: late 70's rock Clue 2: the co-vocalist is very prominent on the first album Clue 3: the rocker in question didn't write his album on his own (in fact did little, but perform) I think that last clue should narrow it down considerably...
