DiggsUK
...from the verb 'to spiff', natch. One spiffs a lot in Cornwall as it is a marvelous place.
blind-fitter
Are you sure you're not mixing up "spiff" with "spuff" (more commonly used as a noun, but I'm sure it could also be a verb)? They also spuff alot in Cornwall, so I'm told.
DiggsUK
My only 'spuffing' was in the campsite bar at Penzance when I was 16. Didn't like it and promptly threw up in a plant-pot...
blind-fitter
Are you sure you don't mean "puffing"? Or perhaps "spliffing"? I can't imagine spuffing in a crowded Penzance bar, nor have I ever found spuffing to have an immediate emetic effect. Puffing/spliffing and spuffing are entirely different activities, though I can just about envisage the two being done simultaneously, or indeed, one after the other. (I would recommend spuffing first. Once you've puffed/spliffed, the urge to spuff disappears entirely ).
DiggsUK
Nooo... 'puffing' is what a gay, asthmatic man does in public toilets...
