Jenny
Thanks for the advice, Lucky. The girls I go on girls' night out with and I invited him along and he accepted. I also asked my husband if we could have him over for a Labor Day picnic. Hopefully, this will serve to at least cheer him up and give him the strength to regain control of his life. Shawna
here's one for you European types: What is meant when someone says, "he weighs 3 stone." How much is a stone in American pounds?
Levis
1 stone = 14 lb Google told me
Levis
It also told me I weigh nearly 10 stone. That sounds like a lot it's not, is it? I prefer kgs
The Seeker
It's a silly, outdated system. Stones
Shawna
well, that's not even rounded out very well. I was thinking it meant maybe 10 pounds, which would be easy to add on the fly. Hmmmph. Now I get to test my math skills. thanks for looking it up!
Farin
It's a silly, outdated system. Stones always reminds me of that Simpsons' quote: The metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it.

Now I get to test my math skills. thanks for looking it up! No conversions are rounded out, I hate converting between imperial and metric 1.609 km in a mile? 2.204 pounds in a kilo? WHAT?! And imperial is just a stupid system. 3 feet in a yard, 12 inches in a foot, 1760 yards in a mile. At least metric is consistent within itself
edna
Radhi: I don't have a license and never did. I drove for years without it till I decided I didn' t need or want to drive or have a license. I can drive and park but I don' t need to do it. Lucky
It's a silly, outdated system. Stones Stones belong to the same world that bushels & pecks belong to I think. I also think Shawna is deep into her Dickens.
Shawna
"One lacqey carried the chocolate pot into the sacred presence; a second, milled and frothed the chocolate with the little instrument he bore for that function; a third, presented the favoured napkin; a fourth poured the chocolate out. It was impossible for Monseigneur to dispense with one of these attendants on the chocolate and hold his high place under the admiring Heavens. Deep would have been the blot upon his escutcheon if his chocolate had been ignobly waited on by only three men; he must have died of two." Where else can you read such deliciously sharp sarcasm? MindCrime
Is it tacky to wear a tie with jeans? I was thinking about doing this at work today.
Lucky
No it's not tacky. It's a look. Nor is it tacky t wear a sport coat with jeans although in August(oops Sept) you be silly too. Nice jeans not, holes in the rear/faded jeans.
MindCrime
I've always hated the holes in jeans / bought faded out look. It's been in style since the 80's at least, and I never understood why department stores still carry them.
_Laurie_
When my daughter was over the other day, she asked me if I liked her new jeans. They had rips all down the leg...I told her she better return those and get her money back...
