MuzikTyme Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 I remember back in the disco days "Gloria Vanderbilt" jeans certainly flattered a chick's rear-end. So did "Chic" jeans! Ah, the days of designer jeans and disco clubs. Those were the Days, My Friend!
pinkstones Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 It is actively homophobic and is against stem cell research So are my parents, sad to say. I don't like that about them and wish they'd change their tune to something far more modern, but they won't. Obviously a company is much different than someone's parents, but I patronize a lot of establishments that conflict with my political views - including church. I don't like the way Wal-Mart treats its employees, but I was so desperate for a job a few months ago that I applied to work there because it would mean a paycheck. I don't agree with Gloria Jeans' political stances, but I happen to know the people that work at the one I frequent and they are not bigoted or hateful people, so I have no qualms giving them my money.
Shawna Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 My son met Tommy James and said he was a really good guy. My son told him about his radio show and Tommy invited him to talk to him more either at this weekend's show (Tommy James is doing a free concert locally) or at some point in the future. Because of the inspiration Ron and his son gave me with this, I will be talking with Mr. James tomorrow for Songfacts. 1) Thank you so much, RJ, for the idea! 2) I'm so excited I can hardly sit still.
Lucky Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Oh yay yay yay for you! I'm soooo flipping jealous.
edna Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 I don't like the way Wal-Mart treats its employees, but I was so desperate for a job a few months ago that I applied to work there because it would mean a paycheck. I hate banks, but with my translations I could hardly pay my rent and my job as a music journalist would just give me backstage passes and free drinks for the concerts So I am working for a bank in the afternoons/evenings.

I can't wait to read the interview Shawna. I've always loved the music of Tommy James. Highly under-rated.
Lea Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Very cool Shawna. I will be looking forward to reading your interview. Good job Ron and son for planting ideas into Shawna head

Kevin Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 So much for impartiality , then , eh ? !
TheLizard Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I got a job! I'm going to be a color commentator for ND men's and women's soccer. The University is going to pay me for bs-ing about sports into a microphone? Win!
Kevin Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) Tell them about SF . We B.S about sports all the time ... and have a grand total of 3 or 4 who know about soccer - which is way above the N .American average / million ! Congrats , Tim ! Edited September 16, 2009 by Guest
Shawna Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Congratulations, Tim! What's a color commentator? (I get the "commentator" part - why the "color"?)
TheLizard Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I'm sure you've heard a sports broadcast. The guy who tells what happens every play is the play-by-play guy, and the guy who fills in the details is the color commentator. So to use a famous example, Al Michaels was the play by play announcer to John Madden's color commentator.
