Uncle Joe
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas -- I think Frank Sinatra did the most famous version, but I'm not sure...anyone? Fin, I believe it was Judy Garland who first popularized this song. Many have done it including the great version by Sinatra. Check out a version by Alison David/Paul Hardcastle. Different and very good. My selections: You're My Christmas Present-Jimmy Beaumont/The Skyliners Christmas Wrapping-The Waitresses Picking two today that came immediately to mind. I love Christmas/Seasonal music. Sleigh Ride is probably the song I like best but I couldn't decide upon a singular version.
Malakin
Wow.. How many versions of Little Drummer Boy can we vote for in one list!? It's my favortite christmas song after all.. I was going to nominate Jars of Clay's version, but I think we've got enough to choose from already. Sarah McLachlan - Song for a Winter's Night Her version of Gordon Lightfoot's song is just haunting.. The lamp is burnin' low upon my table top The snow is softly falling The air is still within the silence of my room I hear your voice softly calling If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead My glass is almost empty I read again between the lines upon each page The words of love you sent me If I could know within my heart That you were lonely too I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim The shades of night are liftin' The morning light steals across my windowpane Where webs of snow are driftin' If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you And to be once again with with you And, Gabriel's Message - Marillion Words are traditional The angel Gabriel from heaven came His wings as drifted snow His eyes as flame From God all hail the angel said to Mary Most highly favoured lady Gloria "Fear not for you shall bear a holy child By him to God be reconciled His name shall be Emmanuel The long-foretold" Most highly favoured lady Gloria Then gentle Mary humbly bowed her head "To me be as it pleaseth God" she said "My soul shall praise and magnify his Holy name" Most highly favoured lady Gloria And so she said "How happy I shall be All generations will remember me For God has kept his promises to Israel" Most highly favoured lady Gloria Of her Emmanuel the Christ was born On Bethlehem upon that Christmas morn And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say Most highly favoured lady Gloria

How many versions of Little Drummer Boy can we vote for in one list!? It's my favortite christmas song after all... in the moment you can vote for three versions, but who knows what else might come... so, people, in case you haven't already, there are still 24 hours to nominate your favourite Christmas tunes! Farin
Just a technicality... Happy Xmas (War is Over) is a valid nomination? Yes, it is This week, we have a SPECIAL Ten, it doesn't matter what songs made, or didn't make the Ten in our 'regular' Top Ten

The Seeker
Fin, I believe it was Judy Garland who first popularized this song. Many have done it including the great version by Sinatra. Check out a version by Alison David/Paul Hardcastle. Different and very good. Thanks, Joe! I haven't found the version by David/Hardcastle yet, but I'll make sure to continue to look for it. I think I'll go with Frank Sinatra's version.
bazooka
I believe it was Judy Garland who first popularized this song. Many have done it including the great version by Sinatra. I think the song originated with Judy Garland's version in the movie Meet Me In St. Louis . In the storyline, it was sung with a biting pathos. That got lost when it later turned into a Holiday standard.
The Seeker
I just remembered a song I like very very very much, namely Christmas All Over Again by Tom Petty. I've nominated already, but just in case someone is still looking for a second song and likes this too, I'd appreciate it greatly... Not trying to persuade anyone, just suggesting. CanAm
Although my two favourite Christmas carols are O Come, O Come Emmanuel and The Coventry Carol, I don't have particular versions that I favour over any others, so I'll nominate: Snowfall - The Manhattan Transfer. This song really showcases the rich harmonies and great vocal talents of this foursome. I Wonder As I Wander - Julie Andrews. Her gorgeous, clear soprano seems tailor-made for Christmas carols. Shawna
Just a technicality... Happy Xmas (War is Over) is a valid nomination? No, it isn't. Das has changed his nomination, and I have sent RubyTuesday a PT and asked her to change hers. She hasn't responded yet...
Shawna
We've got only just over 40 songs so far. Where's the love? Show your Christmas spirit and nominate some songs! If you can't think of any, ask someone - I've got at least three that I wanted to nominate in addition to what I did... Keep those doggies rolling... rawhide. daslied
I don't either, but I managed to find two. Well, three, after Shawna denied me on one.
edna
I hate Christmas songs too... ...but I love the Top Ten... In any case, I was planning to nominate a Roy Wood/Wizard song but I forgot and nominated some other two... Hey, Shawna, why don´t you let me nominate a third song? daslied
I would like to renominate my original pick, which was "Happy XMas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon. The Grinch told me it was disqualified because it made the last top ten. But, since this is a "special" top ten the nomination will count. So I guess I'll go fix my original post. blind-fitter
Well, I could probably rustle up one or two, but they would be the only ones I would want to vote for, and nobody else would vote for them.... (Just like the other Top Tens, really )
