Nickelback... prolific songwriters??

I personally don't listen to Nickelback, but that doesn't mean I hate them either. It has been really sad to see honest request's by new users in the QnA forum get 'crapped' on by people that feel the need to express their one word vocabulary... 'SUCKS'. Either post some help or take your rant to the music discussion. Get it?

Let this thread be an example of how to properly put a voice to your opinion. I would have posted this link before but that would have really taken the QnA thread over the brink.

Anyway, here is the 'proof':

Nickelback Prolific Songwriters??

Nickelback reminds me of a car turning down a dead end street trying to get somewhere. Their lyrics are, IMO, juvenile and about as interesting as litter. Their music is what I like to call potted meat. A sound which is nothing more than a bunch of left-over musical ideas and thoughts thrown into a huge vat, over-mixed and recorded before the first take. I bet they record a whole album in twenty minutes, without even listening to it.

Just the first two lines of Figured You Out is enough for me to not like them:

"I like your pants around your feet

And I like the dirt that's on your knees"

A bunch of pre-teen lyrics mixed with erratic, meaningless guitars.

Prolific? If sounding the same is fertile, then I guess they are because they keep producing crap, IMO of course.

Their sound is tolerable, tolerable like the low hum of an old refrigerator.

I don't think Nickelback are all that bad. Musically, they do seem to sample their own material, but the songwriting can be pretty good, notwithstanding the "pants around your knees" bit. Here are the lyrics to "Never Again"...not exactly your basic pop fare.

Never Again

He's drunk again, it's time to fight

She must have done something wrong tonight

The living room becomes a boxing ring

It's time to run when you see him

Clenching his hands

She's just a woman

Never Again

I hear her scream, from down the hall

Amazing she can even talk at all

She cries to me, Go back to bed

I'm terrified that she'll wind up

Dead in his hands, She's just a woman

Never Again

Been there before, but not like this

Seen it before, but not like this

Never before have I ever

Seen it this bad

She's just a woman

Never Again

Just tell the nurse, you slipped and fell

It starts to sting as it starts to swell

She looks at you, she wants the truth

It's right out there in the waiting room

With those hands

Lookin just as sweet as he can

Never Again

Seen it before, but not like this

Been there before, but not like this

Never before have I ever

Seen it this bad

She's just a woman

Never Again

Father's a name you haven't earned yet

You're just a child with a temper

Haven't you heard "Don't hit a lady"?

Kickin' your a** would be a pleasure

He's drunk again, it's time to fight

Same old sh*t, just on a different night

She grabs the gun, she's had enough

Tonight she'll find out how f*cking

Tough is this man

Pulls the trigger as fast as she can

Never Again

Seen it before, but not like this

Been there before, but not like this

Never before have I ever

Seen it this bad

She's just a woman

Never Again

They have some pretty good songs for this day in age, including the one that Tenacious posted the lyrics to, & some of the tracks off their first album. I wouldn't go as far to say they suck, when they're a lot better than most of the other stuff that's out right now.

Nickelback is the unbroken egg in a crate of broken ones.

Crack the egg and it's rotten. ::

Like I said, to me they're tolerable but uninteresting. They're the kind of band I don't mind playing in the background while I have a conversation with a friend.

Usually, when I have a good song playing I don't want to talk.

I remembered another song with lyrics I like by Nickelback. I have gone through similar experiences (although through female eyes) in my own rather disfunctional childhood...perhaps that is why the lyrics of both songs speak to me. Maybe Nickelback's music is so similar, nobody bothers to listen to the words. Anyhoo...

Too Bad

Fathers hands were lined with dirt

From long days in the field

And mothers hands are serving meals

In a cafe on Main Street

With mouths to feed

Just trying to keep clothing on our backs

And all I hear about is

How it's so bad, it's so bad

[Chorus:]

It's too bad, It's stupid

Too late, so wrong, so long

It's too bad that we had no time to rewind

Let's walk, let's talk

Let's talk

You left without saying goodbye

Although I'm sure you tried

You call the house from time to time

To make sure we're alive

But you weren't there

Right when I'm needed you the most

And now I dream about it

How it's so bad, it's so bad

[Chorus]

Father's hands are lined with guilt

For tearing us apart

Guess it turned out in the end

Just look at where we are

Made it out, still got clothing on our backs

And now I scream about it

How it's so bad, it's so bad
