Kevin
Vote for the " Subterrannean Homesick Blues " : Among this list it's the ultimate rock song : with a catchy , quick beat , themes of alienation , love, drugs , bourgeois pretensions of identification with the lower class , and individualism v.s. ' the system ' . You aren't likely to get tired of it soon , can't easily sing along without a bit of study and it has still one of the coolest videos ever made along with crossover potential to other listeners . "In My Life " would be my second choice as it is framed within a smaller realm of simple sentiment . Steel has won a vote with his clever play on Georgia's lyrics , too ! Malakin
Can we have write-in votes for things that didn't make the list? That'd be easier than trying to decided between all these classics.. but, if I have to campaign for something, then here we go: Dazed and Confused!! Revolutionized how music was recorded, not to mention that it's freaking brilliant!
Farin
Can we have write-in votes for things that didn't make the list? That'd be easier than trying to decided between all these classics.. If I understand you right, then no, you can't vote for anything from out of this list... that would go against the purpose of the Ultimate Rounds 1-5, wouldn't it? Levis
Still rooting for Alive!! Eddie Vedder said most people derived the wrong meaning out of what was meant to be a dark chorus. But on Vh1 Storytellers, he said that whenever they sang 'I'm still alive', 'the curse is lifted'.
OLD 55
Hey Levis - what about your heritage ! Brian Jones learnt that noble (and very difficult to play well) Indian Sitar for "Paint It Black". My goodness, you had better vote for that, by golly. (My Peter Sellers' impersonation of him impersonating an Indian person). :guitar:
umpire
for the Kings of Dreams for the Lords of Love for the Jukes of Jazz VOTE! for the A brisk bit of folk-rock...boasts an inescapable hook...admirably straightforward...quietly subversive--Rolling Stone Dylanesque lyrics/singing and exquisite guitar fills--Wikipedia Greatest Guitar solos #22--Guitar World The perfect blend of clever guitar work and unassailable lyrics... an auditory pleasure-- Umpire Sultans of Swing You get a shiver in the dark, It's been raining in the park, but meantime, South of the river you stop and you hold everything. A band is blowing Dixie double-four time. You feel all right when you hear that music ring. You step inside but you dont see too many faces, Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down. Competition in other places, But not too many horns can make that sound. Way on downsouth, way on downsouth, London town. You check out Guitar George; he knows all the chords. Mind, he's strictly rhythm; he doesnt want to make it cry or sing. You know an old guitar is all he can afford When he gets up under the lights to play his thing. And Harry doesn't mind if he doesn't make the scene. He's got a daytime job; he's doing all right. He can play the honky-tonk like anything, Saving it up for Friday night. With the Sultans, with the Sultans of Swing. And a crowd of young boys they're fooling around in the corner, Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles. They don't give a damn about any trumpet-playing band. It ain't what they call rock and roll. And the Sultans, and the Sultans played creole. And then the man he steps right up to the microphone And says at last just as the time bell rings, "Goodnight. Now its time to go home." And he makes it fast with one more thing. "We are the Sultans. We are the Sultans of Swing."
