DiggsUK
I prefer the intro to 'Highway Star', especially the live version. John Lord at his absolute best. Regards
Tenacious_Peaches
" Smoke on the water" isn't great, merely very familiar. And we all know what familiarity breeds, don't we? Ahh, but one could argue that it became familiar because it was so good to start with, couldn't one? :: Oooh, oooh, I know the answer to the question... Alex, what is contempt? Jimmy1104
Its the way it gradually builds up Gilliann...I am going to guess by the thread that you are talking about Smoke On The Water. I don't remember it building up unless you are listening to the live version on the Made In Japan album (which I currently have in my car). Smoke On The Water's intro is only familiar because it is the most recognized and probably the greatest guitar riff in rock history. I suggest you listen to Deep Purple's Child In Time or Highway Star as those intros were so much better.
Batman
Some more good ones The Doors - Light my Fire Jimi - Night Bird Flying Ozzy - Bark at the Moon, Crazy Train Led Zeppelin - Nobodys fault but mine, Trampled underfoot, Kashmir
Jillianne
Yeah, I have the made In Japan album too,Its great! but the reason I like Smoke on the water so much is the way it just starts out with the guitar and then gradually builds up with drum etc etc

miamisammy29
The Rolling Stones specialize in cool song intros, like Monkey Man or Time Is On My Side. Listen to this man; he KNOWS what he's talking about. The Stones are the best at it, and that's a big reason they're the World's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band. "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "One Hit (To The Body)", "Rocks Off", "Ventilator Blues", "Honky Tonk Woman", "Before They Make Me Run", and Gimme Shelter"...just to name a few with amazing guitar intros.
