johnnyguitar
There are times when a woman has to say what's on her mind Even though she knows how much it's gonna hurt Before I say another word let me tell you, I love you Let me hold you close and say these words as gently as I can There's been another man that I've needed and I've loved But that doesn't mean I love you less And he knows he can't possess me and he knows he never will There's just this empty place inside of me that only he can fill [Chorus:] Torn between two lovers, feelin' like a fool Lovin' both of you is breakin' all the rules Torn between two lovers, feelin' like a fool Lovin' you both is breakin' all the rules You mustn't think you've failed me Just because there's someone else You were the first real love I ever had And all the things I ever said I swear they still are true For no one else can have the part of me I gave to you [Chorus] I couldn't really blame you if you turned and walked away But with everything I feel inside, I'm asking you to stay [Chorus] Torn between two lovers [Fade] Feelin' like a fool Lovin' both of you is breakin' all the rules (Torn Between Two Lovers) Change the gender and this definitely happened to me....I even tried that bollocky bit about not leaving (let me carry on porking you both...can't you see I'm sensitive and upset?) Worked for a while too.... I'm ashamed now, of course

Blue Fish
"Can't you hear the silence theres no more left to say i'm dead and cold inside this shell that you have thrown away. i really couldn't care less if you love her more why continue talking, when silence is all i give? There is no knife but your stabbing me, there is no blood from the wounds inside there is nothing left to hurt This heart is dead so stop stabbing. Thats all i'm giving you, I don't want to share the next few verses here, they have to be sung to be felt...
blind-fitter
I understand. When lyrics are of a very personal nature, it's not always easy to share them with others. Thanks for sharing the first couple of verses anyway.

TheLizard
"Even the Losers" and "Runnin' Down A Dream"- Tom Petty Heck, just pick almost any Tom Petty song and it'll fit into one moment of my life.
Carl
I read somewhere (OK, it was the last issue of Esquire in an article about Survivor vs. Lost) that the purpose of art is to show us glimpses of our lives. Many great songs certainly do that, some without words - "40 Miles Of Bad Road" comes to mind. Over the last year or so, I've felt a connection to (like Shannon) " I Can't Make You Love Me," and have told people, "You can't make a woman love you if she don't." Another one that got me was " I'll Never Love This Way Again." When I packed up and wandered the desert, I took Shawna's advice and set up an interview with Roger Clyne. I loaded up my IPod with his stuff and hiked around Lookout mountain. This is where I heard "Your Name On A Grain Of Rice", and while I've never gone to Mexico to write songs, I felt much better when I realized I wasn't running away, I was just looking for something better inside me. Amen, Carl. And not just for the fact that you're talking about Roger. And, strictly from my perspective... here's another Roger song that I've definitely lived once or twice - just change the name... "Dolly" Roger Clyne Hello Dolly Yes, hello Dolly Now I'm mighty glad you’re back Where you belong Dolly Here's a song, Dolly But if it were up to me I'd send you home Well it gets worse, Dolly Another verse, Dolly Well how many more bad things can I say about you, Dolly Get a clue, Dolly La, la, la, la, la, la, la Well the holidays were good to you And you got everything that you wanted too And I really hope to God all of your wishes come true 'Cause it's over between me and you So the next time you’re around, stay Next time you’re around, stay Next time you’re around, stay away Dolly stay away Dolly stay away Well hello Dolly Yes hello Dolly You know I' m Really really glad you’re back where you belong But you know, if it were up to me I'd send you straight to Holidays were good to you And you got everything that you wanted too And now I really hope to God all of your wishes come true 'Cause it's over between me and you I hope all them wishes come true Stare at the cracks, when there's nothin' to do So the next time you’re around, stay Next time you’re around, stay Next time you’re around, stay away Dolly stay away Dolly stay away Dolly stay away
blind-fitter
Hmmm, yeah, I remember your sensitivity when I shared a few lyrics on the board....cheers. Aw, come on. You know how guilty I felt about that. I've apologised for that already. As I've tried to explain, your lyrics were so atrocious, I assumed you must be taking the pi$$. Had I known your ham-fisted, cliche-ridden, rough-shod ride over the songwriting craft was intended sincerely, I would undoubtedly have exercised more restraint in my comments.
