I've undoubtedly overlooked some important stuff here.

My "new favourite band" is The Dresden Dolls, but I've only been into them for a couple of months, so I haven't included them. Their "essential album" appears to be "Yes, Virginia".

 like, I completely overlooked Beck whose "Odelay" album I played to death for about 5 years....

Also, I never mentioned Sparks, who I've enjoyed since childhood. They've mutated quite alot over the decades, but I find I like their stuff, whatever phase they're in. I've got quite a few of their singles, spanning the 70s and 80s. However, albums-wise, I only have a "Best Of" collection, which (somehow) seems to miss out some vital tunes. How a "Best Of The Sparks" LP can be missing "Looks Looks Looks" and "Something For The Girl With Everything" is a bit of a mystery.

Anyone care to recommend their "Essential Album(s)" to me or tell me anything about their more recent material?

The Bus Boys, "Minimum Wage Rock and Roll". I am surprised they never achieved stardom. These are the guys that opened Eddie Murphy's "Delirious" stand up comedy special (considered by many to be the funniest thing ever committed to celluloid). They perform their original "Boys Are Back In Town", a solid R&B rocker.
