PSYCHOcatholic
Dont think this has been done yet! My choice of course is Billy Joel, not just for his most famous song "Piano Man" but for his other great songs!
MarcM
I admire EJ's fashion sense.
Red Fish
I'm not an authority on either's music, but I've loved Elton John's music for as long as I can remember. Very talented singer/songwriter. Plus, he's like fifty times as weird as Billy Joel will ever be.
edna
I love Elton John, he makes pretty songs, he´s fantastic on stage with his piano... and he´s a great rocker as well as a great ballad singer/songwriter. Besides, he´s a kind of "self made man"...
The Seeker
Can't decide, I like them both equally. (well, their songs)
Otokichi
Although these are the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" days, I prefer Billy Joel to Reg Dwight, aka "Mr. AC-DC." At least Billy Joel didn't perform as Wolfgang Mozart, when he's more in Jerry Lee Lewis' league. Yes, I did like Reg, back when he didn't take himself so seriously. I do have some of Reg's stuff on vinyl...somewhere, but I have Billy Joel on CD. (It's the same with James Taylor vs. Jim Croce; I prefer "Speedball Tucker" to "J.T.") Uncle Joe
They put on a great show together. I vote for Billy Joel because his music more realistically reflects my life (to a small degree) and he draws from the same rock heroes that I admire. Sweet Jane 61
I would pick Elton without even thinking. I have been listening to his music since 1970, and there is just something about his style and with Bernie writing some of the best songs I have ever heard, I love Elton. I do favor the early Elton. I didn't really get into his music much past 1980. And with the road he wants to take now with hip-hop, well I just think he is reaching into something he should not be involved in. I have seen both Billy and Elton in concert and the Elton show was the best of the two. I have one Billy Joel album, "The Stranger", and that is the only music of Billy's that I like to listen to. I think both of them are two of the best artists from the 70's, I just favor Elton.
skybluesky
As far as I know, Billy never dressed up like Donald Duck, so I vote EJ

Ombre Vivante
Billy Joel, but it has to be anything before the 80s.
SoulGirl
elton - so many great songs. but i have to say i'm bitter that it would cost £3 million to have him play at my wedding - my boy enquired with his manager!
TheLizard
Billy Joel by a long shot. Never liked Elton that much, Billy is one of my favorites.
Jenny
I love them both, but I'm going to have to go for Billy Joel, since I happen to listen to him more. I see from the poll that they are running neck and neck, though!
CanAm
Elton John by a country mile. I never cared much for Billy's music except Piano Man (an extraordinary song) and Only The Good Die Young. EJ has such a fabulous body of work that, if push came to shove, I would have to select him as my favourite rock & roll artist. Although I do prefer his pre 1985 stuff, his Made In England CD is excellent.
RonJonSurfer
I'd say there are 5 Billy Joel songs I really like (ie: Captain Jack, Miami 2017) There are dozens by Elton thru the early 80's. The Taupin-John catalog is tremendous and wonderful to listen to...
Sweet Jane 61
You know after reading this thread, I went home the other night and got out my Elton boxed set "To Be Continued..." and listened to all four discs, nothing better, nothing at all. Elton was it back in the 70's and early 80's. The talent between him and Bernie can't be summed up in a few words!
RonJonSurfer
After Elton hit it big, they released an earlier album that he recorded. I think it was called "Empty Sky"....even that was tremendous. Surprised that one didn't catapult him to fame.
katie_sane
I choose Elton, though I like Billy too, but Elton has been an artist I grew up listening to. Now I am about to book tickets to Elton's show in November
PSYCHOcatholic
Does anybody know if Billy Joel will be putting out a album anytime soon? Elton has been trying to get him to release new music for years. Supposedly hes onto Classical music that he composes which is not that bad. Anybody know anything about Mr. Joel? Jenny
I just had a look in Wikipedia and it states that he is touring, but is in "semi-retirement". He is not writing new stuff, but just singing his old stuff.
