Snoopy
Who sang "You Were Always On My Mind" first, Elvis or Willie Nelson? Or, who specifically was it written for? Thanks!
MuzikTyme
If you like the song then you must hear the version by the Jordanaires. The Jordanaires sang back-up for such greats as Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, George Jones and of course, the King. Remarkable singers, the King approved. They did many tribute albums to the King and also have songs of their own. Them being talented musicians could appreciate Elvis like no fan could. Anyone that doesn't like Elvis should read interviews by the musicians that worked close with him. They'll understand why he was so great. One doesn't have to like his music to appreciate what he was and meant to so many. The Jordanaires conveyed the message of You Were Always on My Mind as was truly intended, even better than the King, IMO.

Joel17592
I'm not sure who it was written for but Brenda Lee's version hit the charts in early 1972. Elvis' version was later that same year.

Elvish
Pet Shop Boys may have charted a notch higher on the pop charts, but Willie had a #1 with this song on the country charts. He also won a single of the year CMA for his version. ::
