Song lyrics that don't fit anymore

I got this idead when I saw this in the quote box.

I blew out my flip-flop/Stepped on a pop-top/

Cut my heel had to cruise on back home

Pop-tops, those pull-off tops from cans that were replaced in the late seventies (maybe early-eighties) with a "non-removable" round "pop-down/pop-in" tab.

Was probably a Ralph Nader safety thing. Many people, I heard, swallowed those tabs and choked or cut their throats, they wound up all over the ground too.

Out-dated now.

So it occurred to me that there are probably other song lyrics that have become out-dated too.

Don't forget Beachwood 4 -5789 * by The Marvelettes

"and my number is

Beachwood 4 -5789

You can call me up and have a date

Any old time "

It must have been an anachronism already when it was covered by The Carpenters.

*( William Stevenson / Marvin Gaye / George Gordy )
