I'm gonna have to sit out of this one, I don't feel like going through YouTube at the moment. :P

As for You're Beautiful, personally when I first heard it, I only thought it was okay, but it was one of the few songs I recognized. I don't listen to the radio much, so I wasn't overexposed to it, thankfully.

As for You're Beautiful...

I just heard a parody of it, about working in an office, titled "My Cubicle". It was funny, although if I was going off to work in an office on a Monday morning I'm not sure if I'd think so.

:P

Still time to vote. We'll give it a few more hours. :)

I just heard a parody of it, about working in an office, titled "My Cubicle". It was funny, ....

I understand that most everyone here at SF feels this is not a good song, perhaps because they have heard it so much (still not sure how that makes a good song become bad) but the only version I hear of it on the radio here, is the one where the "F" expletive is used in place of "flying" in the line, "She could see from my face that I was flying high." When the original word is heard (though I normally disdain that tired, overused expletive in lyrical writing) in that line, the meaning changes dramatically. With the F word in there, it is obvious that he wishes he had NOT been high at that time. The song becomes a story of maturation from a drug-storming good time out with the buddies, to one of thoughtful consideration that had the character not been high, he might have made a better impression on a woman of greater sophistication than those with whom he has usually spent time. This was the woman he saw in the subway crowd that perhaps was chosen to be his mate but could go no further with a relationship, once she saw he was a drug user.

Excuse me. I think it's a pretty good song.

Thanks edna. He was a prolific songwriter. I knew he wrote Tobacco Road (I have it on my Lista). He wrote a few minor novelty Hits which he also sang, notably "Calling Dr.Casy" and "The Language Of Love" in the early 60s. I had no idea he wrote the great Eddie Cochran Hit "Sittin In The Balcony".

Seeing as you're such a good customer.... :)

I'm just about to add them now. Farin and I are going to give the #s 1 and 2 songs direct nomination into Top Ten #23. I reckon I can see what will come up #1, but I'm not sure of the rest.

Thanks Dappled. Good to see you back. :)

Don Maughn was the lead singer of The Sorrows. Someone like to please check out if he wrote "Indian Reservation".

:P

Thanks Old55. I looked Don Maughn up. His artist name was Don Fardon and he did record Indian Reservation in 1968 before Paul Revere did. It was a hit too!

Thanks Dappled ! :)

Daslied and Steel Magnolia, we will count your votes + any other regulars who'd like to vote, whether you nominated or not. We don't want anyone to feel left out. Farin will post this Top Ten before he opens the new Thread for our regular one, #23. I'll leave the timing to him. Goodnight (morning now) All. My Wife will probably divorce me.
