Red Fish
I've never read a funnier book in my life. Practically my whole family ended up reading it.
edna
I laughed a lot with it but I don´t think it s the funniest book on earth... unlike my husband and other relatives, who read it over and over...
Dappled
I haven't read it but I have a few friends who read it over and over again, the same ones who reread Tolkien. The only book I have read 3 times is Joseph Conrad's Victory, which was great. I think Bob Dylan did a song inspired by it. I've just finished Graham Greene's The Power and the Glory and started on a book about Napoleon.
Shawna
I'm currently reading "Cold Mountain" which was a chore to get into. But now I'm there and it's actually very good. I'm amazed at how someone was able to adapt that to the screen.
TheLizard
I haven't read it but I have a few friends who read it over and over again, the same ones who reread Tolkien. Yeah, I do that too. Guess I'm just a nerd that way.
edna
I can´t read Tolkien, it´s not my style at all. But I can´t read Harry Potter neither... I had to, because my 10 years old nephew loves it and wanted to talk about it with me, but I couldn´t pass page 100...
Shawna
I can´t read Tolkien, it´s not my style at all. Thank you for that, Edna! For years now I've thought I was the only one... Although I did love the movies.

invisible_r
I did try and read "hobbit" when I was little, and I found it very boring. haven't read tokien since, or seen the movies. Not my style either
Farin
I read the whole trilogy ones, but wouldn't want to again... I enjoyed the film(s), though. I even have the Extended Edition on DVD...

Sarah_Star
Has anyone read any of Torey Hayden's books? I wholeheartedly recommend them - they are fan-bloody-tastic. Ive read all of them now, so I this summer I shall mostly be re-reading them all! Along with my Marian Keyes and Jilly Coopers!! Spiffing!!! SoulGirl
i just finished 'the kite runner' by khaled hosseini. it's an amazing book about an afghani man living in the united states who is returning to his childhood home of kabul after many years and facing the demons of his past. it is stunningly written, a truly impressive debut novel. it was the first time in ages that i found a book which i couldn't put down. the subject matter is a little harrowing at times and i left mascara all over my pillow last night from crying but it's nonetheless very readable and worth the heartache. i would thoroughly recommend it! blind-fitter
I've just finished American Psycho. I didn't know anything about it when I bought it: picked it up for 25p at a Second-Hand Book Sale on the strength of the blurb. When I last mentioned it here, it was before any of the errrr... nasty stuff had started... I was just getting a little fed up of the minute detailing of everyone's designer apparel, menu choice, etc., wondering when something was going to happen. Crikey! Time to turn to something a little on the lighter side, methinks...

I just finished reading his first novel, "less than zero", probably less psychotic but once again centered around drugs and rich people. I quite liked it, although I would see why someone could find it pointless
