OLD 55
Thanks everybody for your thoughts, encouragement and offers of help. I think the main message to come from you is that a 7 day Top Ten would be preferable. With that in mind, we'll keep the voting open for another day. ................................................. In the meantime, how about going back through Top Tens 11 - 20 and sharing your Nominations over that period with us ? For those who've joined us recently, bluesboy suggested that after every Tenth Top Ten it would be fun to look back on our nominations and each prepare an imaginary "Compilation CD". It received a lot of support first time around, but only he, CeeCee, edna, CanAm and myself have done so this time. They're all in this Thread. Of course, mine isn't imaginary. My nominations were so good that I've had record companies fighting for the rights to release it. Here it is again. "DON'T BREAK MY CHAIN Volume 2". and it will carry this message - (a clever marketing ploy to prey on the superstitious, like a Chain Email) WARNING ! IF YOU DON'T BUY THIS CD AND TELL 10 OF YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT WITHIN 24 HOURS, SOMETHING AWFUL WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. 1. Do Wah Diddy Diddy - Manfred Mann 2. Centerfold - J.Geils Band 3. I Say A Little Prayer For You - Aretha Franklin 4. Stop! In The Name Of Love - The Supremes 5. Lyin' Eyes - The Eagles 6. The Tracks Of My Tears - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles 7. All Shook Up - Elvis Presley 8. If You Leave Me Now - Chicago 9. Love Her Madly - The Doors 10.Substitute - The Who 11.The Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band 12.Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac 13.Gloria - Them 14.Riders On The Storm - The Doors 15.Mellow Yellow - Donovan 16.Mr.Tambourine Man - The Byrds 17.Aquarius/ Let The Sun Shine In - The 5th Dimension 18.Somebody To Love - Jefferson Airplane 19.December 1963 (Oh What A Night) - The 4 Seasons 20.Handle With Care - The Traveling Wilburys ................................................. c_s_1987
I believe some see it as the "cool" thing to do - nominating Classic Rock. Personally I'd like to see one Top Ten with no Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Zeppelin, Doors, Deep Purple etc. etc. but I'm happy to go with the opinion of the majority. I nominate mostly classic rock since we are supposed to nominate songs we like, and this is the type of music I like the most. I imagine other people have the same reason. I agree with having a top ten without the most popular bands and artists, but we will have to work out and clarify the rules on that.

OLD 55
Radhi, I just went back through our threads for each Top Ten and cut and pasted from my nominations. It is hard to remember !
OLD 55
I agree with having a top ten without the most popular bands and artists, but we will have to work out and clarify the rules on that. Thanks Chris. I'm glad someone noticed I said A "once off" ! And all I was suggesting was leaving out artists/bands that had been #1. You just be true to yourself and keep nominating songs you like. OLD 55
I also think we should have the top ten Pan Flute solos. And yodelling...and bagpipes...and accordion. Apologies to those who like the above. I do too in small doses.
c_s_1987
And all I was suggesting was leaving out artists/bands that had been #1. That sounds like a very good idea. I think we should do it soon.
OLD 55
Maybe one day Mate. We'll concentrate on getting the regular Top Ten back up and running first. We're just giving all nominators the chance to vote in this Top Ten, as it's early Sunday morning in the U.S., but we'll have to announce it soon I think. I haven't seen Farin here tonight, but if he doesn't do it later, I'll put it on in about 12 hours. We're waiting because we know this person's vote will change the Top Ten, going by her nominations. I hope I don't embarrass her with this Post.

OLD 55
Farin will post the all the Points and statistics later. Here's my thoughts on the Ten, and of course we welcome ALL feedback. It was no great surprise to see Led Zeppelin's great rocker Black Dog at #1 (CeeCee's first nomination to have that distinction). However I thought See Emily Play would fare much better; it just scraped in. I was really surprised at how well two re-nominations did, Build Me Up Buttercup and Helter Skelter. I think the former had been nominated twice before ! Subterranean Homesick Blues is probably one of Bob's better vocal efforts. You all know I think he's a great songwriter.... And of course shadows' shameless plugging of it with the video didn't do it any harm ! (I think it's a great video). Two wonderful R & B classics of the 60s and 70s from The Drifters and Gladys Knight & The Pips, + one of Elton's greatest as far as I'm concerned (I thought it would place higher), and two massive 50s Hits from Elvis and Bobby Darin. NOW I'M ALSO OPENING A NEW THREAD FOR TOP TEN #22 IF YOU'D LIKE TO START NOMINATING THERE. THIS ONE WILL BE KEPT OPEN FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS SO WE CAN DIGEST OUR CURRENT TOP TEN, AND WE REALLY DO WELCOME YOUR FEEDBACK, THOUGHTS ON THE TEN, ETC. HERE PLEASE. edna
It's funny, "Build me up buttercup" in the second place! I love this song but I didn't vote it, though I did the first time it was nominated... The Drifters and Bob Dylan made it, good! Just as Gladys Knight... I love that song... Malakin
Well, I'm certainly glad to see that Black Dog hit #1. It doesn't get more recognizable and classic than that! Midnight Train to Georgia is one of my wife's all time faves, so that'll make her happy too. I'm for the 7 day thing, just to put my 2cents in after the fact, and I say let's leave the rules the way they are, after the fact as well. Here's my lists 11-20 noms. would make an interesting mix! 1. The Ship Song - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 2. King of Spain - Moxy Fruvous 3. Imagine - John Lennon (reached #2) 4. The Seeker
Those lists here are always great, and there's a lot of songs who aren't really obvious choices for a Top Ten...we should congratulate ourselves on our good tastes in music. OLD 55
Well said guys. Your Wife has great taste Malakin; I nominated Midnight Train To Georgia because it's always been a favorite of mine too.
