The American Film Institute (AFI) is airing a show on the top 100 songs from movies over the past 100 years. It airs Tuesday June 22nd.

Any predictions? You just might get a  'I am not not worthy, you are so :coolio:  if you post the songs that will make the top ten. :jester:

Just thought I would give y'all a heads up in case you missed the advertisments for this show.

gotta give credit where credit is due... EGGPLANT was the first person to post this on SongFacts, but it is in the Film thread, otherwise I would 'bump' it. ::

I wonder if Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die" will be in the top 100?

I wouldn't doubt some of those James Bond films will make the list.

I'll predict that 'Over the Rainbow' wins.

It would be oh so cooooool if "Rock Around the Clock" gets a nod (I'm sure the film was called, "The Blackboard Jungle").

I'd love to see "The Candy Man" make it (if it's nominated). The same with "Suicide is Painless," the original from the movie M*A*S*H.

I'm sure many of the Disney films will make the top 100, including the cartoon ones.

I can't believe I forgot about "Moon River" and "The Way We Were." I also can't believe that "Big Bottom" from "This Is Spinal Tap" is on the ballot. Screw "Over The Rainbow"...this has got my vote! ::

Big Bottom

Spinal Tap

The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'

That's what I said.

The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand,

Or so I have read.

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo.

I like to sink her with my pink torpedo.

Big bottom,

Big bottom,

Talk about bum cakes,

My girl's got 'em.

Big bottom,

Drive me out of my mind.

How could I leave this behind?

I saw her on monday, 'twas my lucky bun day,

You know what I mean.

I love her each week day, each velvety cheek day,

You know what I mean.

My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights,

Big game is waiting there inside her tights.

Big bottom,

Big bottom,

Talk about mud flaps,

My girl's got 'em.

Big bottom,

Drive me out of my mind.

How could I leave this behind?

Staying Alive, Blues, will definitely be in there somewhere.

Another one I think will be is Dr.Zhivago's Laura's theme.

Let's not forget 2001 Space Odyssey w/Sprach Zarathustra.

One that's gotta be there is Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. I can't imagine a more fitting soundtrack for the most shocking horror film ever.

The Breakfast Club and Simple Minds' Don't You Forget About Me is also a prime candidate.

Well, I know three songs that won't win, three of the ones I picked.

2001 Space Odyssey - Also Sprach Zarathustra (Probably the most unusual and influencial score ever used in the history of movie making)

The Exorcist - Tubular Bells (Hauntingly perfect soundtrack)

Dr. Zhivago - Laura's Theme (One of the most beautiful epic soundtracks in the history of movie making)

Out of 400 nominees, the above three didn't get picked.

I wish Paul McCartney had come out with more solo stuff like "Live and let die" and "Jet". I don't think "Live and let die" will win, too many people still don't like Roger Moore.

I hope "Over the Rainbow" doesn't win. I always hated that movie. The 'munchkin kids' really freaked me out.

I think "Rainbow Connection" should win. Kermit is so cool and the movie was good also.

I can't narrow it down to 10, so here is my top 25...

All That Jazz - Chicago

As Time Goes By - Casablanca

Beauty and the Beast ? Beauty and the Beast

Coal Miner's Daughter ? Coal Miner?s Daughter

Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend ? Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Don't Cry For Me, Argentina - Evita

Endless Love ? Endless Love

Eye of the Tiger ? Rocky III

Fame - Fame

I Will Always Love You ? The Bodyguard

Jailhouse Rock ? Jailhouse Rock

Moon River ? Breakfast at Tiffany?s

My Heart Will Go On ? Titanic

Over the Rainbow ? Wizard of Oz

Rainbow Connection ? The Muppet Movie

Rock Around the Clock ? Blackboard Jungle

The Rose ? The Rose

Singin' in the Rain ? Singin? in the Rain

The Sound of Music ? The Sound of Music

Stayin' Alive ? Saturday Night Fever

Theme from Shaft - Shaft

(I've Had) The Time of My Life ? Dirty Dancing

The Way We Were ? The Way We Were

Wind Beneath My Wings - Beaches

You Light Up My Life ? You Light Up My Life

I think the top 3 will be some combination of "Over the Rainbow", "I Will Always Love You", and "My Heart Will Go On."

I can't wait to watch the show. I am a complete sucker for countdowns. I don't care what is being counted down, but by God, if it has a top ten, I'm there. I even watch the countdowns on Country Music Television. Coincedentally, "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton was the greatest country love song of all time.

Tenacious D alert!

"Let's Get It On" sung by Jack Black in "High Fidelity" was on the AFI list. We can only hope it is somewhere on the countdown.

I just looked at the nominees and saw that Kermit's "Rainbow Connection" didn't even make the list. Out of love and respect for Kermit and all things Henson I will be boycotting the broadcast.

It was good to see the Soggy Bottom Boys' "Man of Constant Sorrow" on the list.
