Jenny
Well, water has two other physical properties.....
Farin
of course! You freeze the water from one of the jugs, and when you put both of them in the barrel, the ice floads on the (other) water and so you can keep them seperated.
daslied
I thought about that, but how would the frozen block of water exit the narrow opening of the jug? I guess you didn't rule out the use of tools, did you? Criminy.
Malakin
Why wouldn't you just freeze them both, and put both blocks of ice in the barrel.. Floating one in the other, really, that's just silly.
Uncle Joe
You freeze the water from one of the jugs, and when you put both of them in the barrel, the ice floads on the (other) water and so you can keep them seperated. Maybe, but not for long.
daslied
You pour one into the barrel, and let it evaporate. Then you pour the other one in.
Jenny
Malakin's right...the answer is that you freeze both jugs of water and put one block next to the other in the barrel. I don't know how you'd get the water out of the jugs easily that way, but that was the answer to the riddle Your turn, Malakin!
Malakin
Alright, you asked for it.. Who Am I? I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden. I will push you onward to success or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half of the things I do you might just as well turn over to me and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly. I am easily managed- you must merely Be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons I will do it automatically. I am the servant of all great individuals and, alas, of all failures, as well. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a human. You may run me for profit or run me for ruin- it makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy with me and I will destroy you. Who Am I?

daslied
Larry is in police custody for a suspected robbery. There is some evidence that he stole a watch out of a locker where he worked. "What happened at the factory, Larry?" Chief Brossard asked. "I came to work at 5:00 AM as I always do. We worked until noon when we ate lunch, which lasted an hour. I-" "What do you do at work?" "I cut metal slabs." "How long does that take?" "About one minute per strip. They're for motor vehicles. Anyway, after lunch, I had exactly 179 strips to make. Three hours later, I came into the locker room to change and go home when I saw a locker broken into. Some people came in and accused me of stealing someone's watch. I didn't have time to steal it because when I got off at 3:59 other people would have seen me as an entire shift gets off, and a minute to get there and break into the locker isn't enough time." With fingerprint evidence, Chief Brossard's suspicion was true that Larry stole the watch. How did he have time do it?
Lucky
Larry's work should only have taken a little over 2 hours to complete. There is some unaccounted for time.
daslied
Look at the time he needed to do his work, but also look at the actual work he had to do.
Malakin
He got back from lunch at 1, had 2 hours 59 minutes worth of slabs to cut, so he finished at 3:59. I don't see any unaccounted for time.
