Red Fish
Maybe I should start nominating songs that people besides me are familiar with. Oh well. I think I'll try a few more (assumably obscure) songs I like before I do that...
bazooka
The Band always sounded Hillbilly to me, but except for Levon Helm, they were all from Canada.
OLD 55
I haven't heard enough Jethro Tull to really judge. I did like him in the Beverly Hillbillies though.

edna
I know the lyrics, but do they refer to three different women? 1. His Mother 2. The woman who seduces him 3. The woman who gives him the flick OR did he marry/partner her and she's tired of him and wishes he was dead ? I found this ...
OLD 55
Thanks edna ! I had wondered if it was about that. I agree that the great guitar solo is the best part. The lead singer's harder to understand than John Fogerty (of whom I'm a huge fan, but I was glad when CCR Albums had the lyrics included).
edna
Oh, come on, Darryl, nothing is harder to understand than John Fogerty... (which I love too)

MindCrime
I just ran across Weird Al's lyrics for "Smells Like Nirvana" which addresses this very problem. It's hysterical - and in the SF database I remember the music video for that, MTV used to play it constantly & I would keep thinking it was the video for Teen Spirit, but it had been 6 weeks or so since MTV took it out of rotation & replaced it with "In Bloom" It's unintelligible I just can't get it through my skull It's hard to bargle nawdle zouss with all these marbles in my mouth Don't know, don't know, don't know, oh no!
