daslied
I've never seen "It's A Wonderful Life", and I never will. I have personal issues with Jimmy Stewart. "Rocky" is the business. I would add "Big Fish" and "Searching For Bobby Fischer". Wait, no "Karate Kid"? CNN is dumb.
Earth-Angel
What about "Dead Poets Society"? Or "Shawshank Redemption"? Or "Shine"? I can't say I felt remotely inspired after E.T...
Tenacious_Peaches
Please, please, please tell us what your personal issues are with Jimmy Stewart.

daslied
HA HA HA HA HA HA Sue. Very funny. Jimmy Stewart has left a trail of heartbreak, bottled up anger and needless blame across this nation, and all you people can do is make jokes about it. Tenacious_Peaches
Does this mean you have not seen the Hitchcock classic "Vertigo"? Trust me, Jimmy is so not Jimmy in this movie. It is sick and twisted and I know you would love it.
bazooka
Is it because he let Martha rot in jail? Or because he disowned Rod in the Do You Think I'm Sexy days?
Otokichi
"Mr. Holland's Opus" is an interesting film, but (judging from fallout from "No Child Left Behind" and bond issues) most tax payers don't think The Arts are THAT important. The Arts are THAT important, of course, but take a back seat to Globalization and other threats to the nation. (I also wasn't exactly impressed by "Glen Holland's 'American Symphony.") Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" and "Appalachian Spring" struck the National Unity chord when most needed during World War II without all the sound and fury. bazooka
Is it because he accepted the credit for being The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance ?
RyanTurtle
I hate It's A Wonderful Life. In my honest opinion....it's overrated and To Kill A Mockingbird should have been nunber one...then again...if I made the list...Ghandi or Cool Hand Luke would have been in there.... Steel2Velvet
I felt "Ghandi" with Ben Kingsley was inspiring.
rtstuff
I thought the Grapes of Wrath was rated too high. I mean what is inspiring about that film. It is a down right depressing in my book. I think the Shawshank Redemption should be in the top five in my opinon. I set up that night and watched the entire show. I agreed with most of them, but some I would have rated higher and some lower. I can't remember where "The Bridge On The River Kwi" was rated, but I do know it should have been higher. rtstuff "Cut Me Mick" Rocky Balboa. MindCrime
Most of these films CNN picked, only inspired me to eject the VHS tape & return to the Video Rental. Saving Private Ryan is, IMO overated & not ready for an all-time top 10 list, too much gore & not enough focus on ambitious plot. I could think of a few "WWII" classic themed films that were much better at portraying the issues behing the curtain, without the derogatory twist. This list was accurate with it's classics that were featured, for the movies that were released during the past 25 years, they really aren't the greatest that have been offered. Forrest Gump & Casablanca were more deserving, just an opinionated view though. _______________________________________________________________ I can't say I felt remotely inspired after E.T... Same here, Gremlins left me with an emotional patch though.
Uncle Joe
When I was a kid I saw the "Crazy Legs Hirsch" movie and it inspired me to become a football player. Elroy was way ahead of his time on the grid iron.
Shawna
My son and I went and saw "Click" last weekend. It was the most heart-wrenching, inspirational film of all time.
