Batman
it's a good song batman! why are you so shocked? Because I can't stand "Mr. Brightside."
Red Fish
What annoys me is all these recent bands that can't sing for the life of them. That's what bothers me about the Killers. Maybe it's just a style thing, but eh, if I want crappy singing, I'll listen to punk rock thank you very much.
Batman
Well, I've noticed that with a lot of recent bands, the focus hasn't been so much on vocal talent as much as vocal...expression. Good example = Jeff Mangum. He's a bad singer, but he sings with a lot of emotion, and his songs make you want to cry.
Red Fish
Hmm, I suppose so. I listened to an album by a Jpop artist named Gackt the other day and most of the songs on the album involve him emoting the lyrics, not so much showing off his range, tone, etc. (Easier to pay attention to that stuff when you can hardly understand a word of it.) Personally I thought it made the songs a bit overblown, but oh well. He's not a bad singer, though...
invisible_r
"Mr. brightside" is just one song, they have several, and I t hink they are really good. I don't see your point , Namahage, about the bad singing, I really don't see what's wrong with Brandon Flowers' voice.
Red Fish
My main problem is that it's mostly monotone. The vocals seem to stay within the same three to five tone range most of the song (and they're sung in a droning manner ), or at least in the ones I've heard. I've never really listened to much of their stuff, though, so you probably know more of their stuff than me.
Jenny
I just heard that New Pair of Jeans song by Fatboy Slim that Batman was talking about....it's good, so I would advise you all to check it out. I'm listening to the "New Releases" Launchcast station today!
MindCrime
will do Jenny, I usually like Fatboy Slims works, especially after that album my sister-in-law lent to us, that blew me away. :guitar:
Batman
July 11, 2006...Muse vs. Thom Yorke...which artist will have bigger sales? I'm rooting for Thom, but I'm buying both albums.
Jugband_Blues
everybody should listen to the Shins! great music. "Oh, Inverted World" came out in 2001 and "Chutes Too Narrow" in 2003...if you only get one, choose the latter, though they're both great.
Batman
Yeah, I have a feeling a lot of Songfactors would like the Shins. They are a folksy band that sounds like they came straight out of the summer of love. Song reccomendations: "New Slang" "Caring is Creepy" "Kissing the Lipless" "Saint Simon"
Ombre Vivante
There are a couple of bands I can honestly say have been making some great music this decade: Air, Daft Punk, The Faint, Chris Isaak, and Kent. Anything else I listen to that comes from this decade falls into the "guilty pleasures" file. As in, it is crap, but I will listen to it anyway.
