Too tough. I could've listed at least 30. I left off some great songs that I love so that I could include some lesser songs that deserve to be noticed like Nature's Way, In The Summertime and Only Happy When It Rains.

1-Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream I can remember dancing to this (strobe lights and all)

2-You've Got A Friend - James Taylor (Carole King penned the penultimate friend song and James sang it like he owns it)

3-Avalon - Roxy Music (is there a more romantic song?)

4-White Bird - It's A Beautiful Day (and it's a beautiful song)

5-Moondance - Van Morrison (overplayed but awesome)

6-Nature's Way - Spirit (captures the spirit of the 60's)

7-City Of New Orleans, The - Arlo Guthrie (with a nod to the late Steve Goodman for writing such a wonderful song)

8-In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry (pure fun, like summer should be)

9-Save The Last Dance For Me - The Drifters (Hey, who wants to slow dance with me?)

10-Only Happy When it Rains - Garbage (my favorite song by Garbage. Love the rain, tho for different reasons)

1. Summer Breeze - Seals And Crofts This song is all about imagery. The lyrics, the music both paint a summer memory from nearly everyone's life.

2. Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin Another imagery song, this from the pen of Kris Kristofferson, interpreted brilliantly by Janis.

3. Rocky Mountain High - John Denver From those first winding guitar curls, we are transported onto a mountain trail with one of the Nature's best troubador friends.

4. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan One of the great "story" songs ... welcome to reality.

5. Reeling In The Years - Steely Dan This was my first intro to Steely Dan. I thought the lead voice was kind of strange, but the entire musical fusion package was SO magnetic!

6. Dirty Water - The Standells If the Rolling Stones were American - they would be the Standells.

7. Save The Last Dance For Me - The Drifters I heard the latest incarnation of this song by Michael Buble just the other day. It has been covered a lot, but none better than the original.

8. You've Got A Friend - James Taylor I just believe it is true, everytime I hear this song...

9. Ventura Highway - America Back to imagery again, "Chewin' on a piece of grass, walkin' down the road ..." Great writing.

10. Cry Like A Baby - The Box Tops Who among us cannot relate to this reaction to the collaspe of a romance?

Hi All. I just counted the votes to date, 26 of our 30 'nominators', so that leaves 4 (including me) still to vote. With 1430 votes allocated, there are only 4 songs with over 40 points each. This is the widest spread I've seen in any of our Top Tens.

Still to vote:

CanAm

jman

phil

Old55 (now I can relax after calculating 26 x 55 votes. Val had to help me find where I was out last time).

:)

I have a backup this time. Farin is also checking the votes, and he'll be taking over for the next few Top Tens. Val and I head 500 miles (800 kilometres) North West in a few days to visit our eldest daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren Alyssa and Christopher. Christopher is two on 15th June, so we're using his Birthday as an excuse to visit.

Look after Farin for me. I know he'll do a great job. I'll stll nominate and vote on our "kids'" computer.

:)

Now that you hand the reins over to me, you think that the rules don't apply to you anymore?

You can only vote once for each song, you know :jester:

But I know from a reliable source (himself), that Old 55 wanted to vote Substitute ~ The Who on #1.

I'll announce the Top Ten accordingly :)

My nominations were Substitute and Love Her Madly. I told Farin Substitute was always going to be my #1 and he could allow an extra 10 for it when we were checking the points yesterday. Great Gig In The Sky was leading at that stage. I was hurrying to get my Ten finished tonight (here) so I could watch "LOST" and typed another song twice.

Substitute and Love Her Madly both made the Ten ! First time I've ever had that happen.
