I hope these haven't already been nominated so here goes.

"Me and Bobby McGee" Janis Joplin

"Spirit In The Sky" Norman "wildman" Greenbaum. The "mother" of all one hit wonders in my opinon.

"When I die and they lay me to rest I'm going to go to the place that's the best". "Spirit In The Sky."

Pride of Man - Quicksilver Messenger Service

Excellent, bluesboy!

Quicksilver's Pride Of Man ( written by the multi-talented Hamilton Camp ) is one of my all-time favorite songs. I hope other SongFactors know it. Quicksilver Messenger Service, at least the Quicksilver of the first three albums, is sadly under-recognized )

-------------------------------

With that in mind, I nominate another from that era and milieu:

... White Bird - It's A Beautiful Day

I don't think that song ever qualified as a "hit", but it is one of their best.

It's A Beautiful Day is probably at least as well known for the album cover.

and

from a different time and place, but probably no less obscure:

... Be Thankful for What You Got - William DeVaughn

There are some seriously good songs already here. I'm not in the mood for serious though. So...

In The Summertime ~ Mungo Jerry....The last summer I spent living in Southern California, having as big a blowout summer you can when you're 14 with no parents around. This song played all summer.

Wipeout ~ The Surfaris....If you're from my generation, and especially the guys should know, you were nothin' if you couldn't drum Wipeout on the desk or the dashboard.

Hey CeeCee when I was in high school one of my best friends was a drummer in a local band. You should have seen him do wipeout on the top of his student desk with a couple of pencils. Man he could spin those pencils, throw them up in the air, catch them, and not miss a beat. The last i heard from him was that two members of the mob were holding him upside down on top of a overpass in I believe Houston, or it might have been Dallas. I don't know where he is now.

"It could be, It might be, it is. Home run Bill White". Harry Caray circa 1967 KMOX radio.

Better vote for rt's songs or he'll have you dropped off an overpass by some of his Mob connections !

Spirit In The Sky is an inspired nomination. ;)

Me And Bobby McGee was nominated before, but that's fine. It didn't make the Top Ten so give it another shot.

I just remembered that Dappled sent me a PT a few days ago with his two nominations. He should be back in time to vote.

Mystery Train - Elvis Presley

No Reply - The Beatles

Good ones ! I'll cross No Reply off my Lista.

My buddy was a strange dude Darryl. After college, Marshall U., he was comissioned a second Lieutenant in the US Army. Most of those comissioned right out of school went to Viet Nam. Some how he missed that gig and ended up in a commune somewhere in the western US. I even heard that he was living in some type of "Tree House" structure. I envisioned something like that in "Swiss Family Robinson".

David sure was a strange little fellow, but he sure could play the drums.

Trivia question Do you know how they made the sound effect at the beginning of "Wipe Out" before the first notes are sounded?

Answer. They broke a wooden shingle in two.

That's a good one rt. I've never heard that before. In Australia we had a band who used an old fashioned, large keyed typewriter for the introductory "bar" to one of their songs.

Your poor buddy sounds like he really got screwed up. :P
