Yes, you were conspicuous by your absence. What's with the new avatar ??

Cheers. Judo.

In just under two weeks the FIFA Wold Cup starts. To show my support for the German team, I changed my avatar to the logo of the DFB (Deutscher Fussball Bund) the German Football(Soccer) Federation.

This was a difficult selection this time, but for a different reason. This was the first time that I had trouble coming up with 10 picks. This was also the first time, I think, that I picked my nominations #1 and #2.

Sorry I'm a little late guys; I have family in from out of town for the weekend.

Here goes.

1. House Of The Rising Sun. Every young boy that gets a guitar learns the first chords of this song as one of there first lessons. Classic 60's song.

2. Reach Out I'll Be There. Probably my favorite soul ballad.

3. Secret Agent Man. A hit from one of rocks underrated stars, Johnny Rivers. I had a good friend that met Johnny one time and my friend said he sure was a little fellow to put out such a booming voice.

4. Hair. Classic psychedelic era hit. "Give me a head of hair shoulder length or longer". My hair was to wavy when I was young to grow it that long. The birds would have started nesting in it.

5. You're So Vain. 1972 I believe. I was travelling to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta when that was a hit.

6. Lyin Eyes. Beautiful ballad. One of my mum's favorites.

7. Track of My Tears. Another soul hit for my list.

8. Start Me Up. My third favorite Stone's tune behind "Paint it Black", and "Jumpin Jack Flash".

9. Georgia On My Mind. Beautiful song by a legend.

10. Dream On This barely edged out several others on the list to make my top 10.

Everyone have a safe holliday weekend.

Hi rt. No, you're not late. We have another 9 who nominated (+ any regulars who didn't) to vote yet. Probably a few away for the Memorial Day weekend ?

Steel, your nomination was quite O.K. at the time. I'm sure American Pie wasn't in the Songfacts Top Ten when you nominated it. I deleted it because I didn't think it was fair to the chances of the song, if people thought they couldn't vote for it - as CeeCee said.

Finally, I hope nobody is avoiding voting for Start Me Up because of what I said about Stones, Beatles, and Simon & Garfunkel songs 'dominating' the Top Ten. I put it in my list !

Have a great day/night all. :)

I've just noticed something else that slipped past my guard. SORRY !

I didn't notice Radar Love made it into our Top Ten #8. I've deleted it from the nominations. Phil, would you please nominate 3 songs next time to make up for that? I'll start an alphabetical list of all songs that have made it to our Top Tens, before the next lot of nominations.

Sorry - it's getting harder to keep track of just what's been in our Top Tens now. Just to clarify that, once a song has appeared in one of our Top Tens, it can't be re-nominated. Ones that haven't made it can be.

Goodnight All !

Perhaps we should make a list of prohibited nominations. My suggestions:

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones

Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin

Hotel California - The Eagles

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

I don't think any of the other regular top tenners are likely to make no. 1 on our list though.

Hi jman and c s. I wouldn't like us to really 'prohibit' any other songs. I'd like to see (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones nominated sometime, because inexplicably it doesn't make the Songfacts Tens.

I'll start up an alphabetical list of ALL of our Top Ten songs after this one, #13, put it at the start of the thread for #14, and keep adding to it after each subsequent one. Might even start a separate thread for it yet.

Then it'll only take a few moments to browse through that list + the Songfacts Daily and Weekly Tens when we nominate each time.

That sound O.K. ?

:)

Thanks jman. It's in a thread titled Top Ten #14 which can be viewed now, but won't be open (of course) until we finalise our current Top Ten.

A few still to vote + any other regulars who may not have had a chance to nominate !

:)

Or you could do it like me. I go to the Archive and use the search function of my browser to search whether the songs I want to nominate were already posted sometime before...
