The Songfactors' Choice Top Ten # 13

Recommended Posts

Or you could do it like me. I go to the Archive and use the search function of my browser to search whether the songs I want to nominate were already posted sometime before...

:)

Huh ??? :help:

It's alright for you youngsters who can use computers. I don't even know if I can do that with my browser. But of course I did go through the excellent Archives. I was going to nominate "Crying"/ Roy Orbison next time but it's already been in a Ten. The old memory isn't as good as it used to be.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a smart aleck :P

Yes you can do that with every browser. You just go to the Archive and click Edit --> Search (or you can press + ). Then a little Pop up opens where you can write what it should search for press and it marks the find (you can press again to search further) :)

No ! I was just joking. :)

I'll give that a try. Thanks Farin. Keep up the great work with the Archives. I had a really good look at them when I was going through the Top Tens today.

I also had another look at Judo's graph; there were no 50s songs at all last month in the Top Ten. I'll have to think up a good one to nominate.

OleFif, I've got fifties on my mind all the time. 50's just don't make it to the top ten. Of late I am trying to nominate one old and the other as new and as likeable as possible. Even, if they dont make it to the top ten I will continue to nominate/re-nominate oldies. No point in nominating something I don't appreciate / have not heard yet.

Thanks RonJon. We'll leave voting open a little longer. I've got my settings on U.S. Eastern Time (I think), almost 6.00 PM Monday 29th, so say another 5 hours. I'll then finish my calculations and have the Top Ten up by Midnight !

Well, this would have to be regarded as the "R&B/Soul/Blues" Top Ten with 6 songs falling under that genre. Also Country Rock, Pop, Rock and Garage Rock Classics. A marvellous List I believe. I'd love to see bluesboy's face when he finds the great John Lee Hooker in there. Good nomination by rtstuff with our #1 Pick !

Thanks to All who nominated and voted.

I was thinking we had some 50s, Boom Boom being older than that until I looked it up. And I wasn't sure when Ray Charles' version of Georgia On My Mind was released either. It was written in 1931 by Hoagy Carmichael, who also of course wrote what many consider to be the greatest song of the 20th Century, Stardust.

Great list as usual, I'm glad House of the Rising Sun made it on #1

Great stuff as usual Farin.

Not even one 50s nomination ! I'll have to think long and hard about that. Some Classic that at least a few people besides me will know.

:P

We still haven't had:

A 50s, 80s, 90s, 00s #1

A female solo artist or Group #1

An Instrumental in the Top 10

Thinking caps on before we nominate for Top Ten #14 soon !!!

Goodnight All. :)

Hey OLD 55 I still have kids in class today that bring guitars to class and will knock out a littl "House of the Rising Sun". It truly is a timeless classic.

rtstuff

The question remains how many a young man has visited the "House Of the Risising Sun"?

I too am very happy John Lee Hooker made the top ten. He's one of my favorites.

Me too. I love the whole bluesy, R&B feel to this top ten. I didn't even have one close this time, which reflects my lack of concentration on this one...I would still like to get Jackson Browne in there!

Good job to everyone!!! :)

That doesn't surprise me rt. The song seems to have been around for a long time, well before The Animals recorded it. It was originally titled "Rising Sun", and sung by a female. The lyrics have undoubtedly undergone a few changes and of course it's now regarded as being about a lad and a house of ill repute.

It sure knocked our socks off when we first heard it in 1964.
