Shawna
Holy Crap! How am I ever going to whittle this down to just 10? This is the toughest one for me yet... 1. American Pie ~ Don McLean 2. Lyin' Eyes ~ Eagles 3. Dream On ~ Aerosmith 4. Easy To Be Hard ~ 3 Dog Night 5. Think ~ Aretha Franklin 6. You're So Vain ~ Carly Simon 7. Killing Me Softly ~ Roberta Flack 8. Surrender ~ Cheap Trick 9. Hair ~ Cowsills 10. You Oughta Know ~ Alanis Morrisette Oh, man that was hard. Intriguingly, there are two songs here that represent Don McLean, though some might not know about it. "Killing Me Softly" is (allegedly) about a Don McLean concert that Robert Flack attended, and it's written about the effect his words had on her. As far as "You Oughta Know" by Alanis, if you haven't heard the live Grammy version of that one (recorded the year she won the Grammy for it), it leaves the studio version so far back in the dust it's ridiculous. I had to leave "Beth," "Killer Queen," and "One Thing Leads To Another" off... ouch. The version of "Tracks of My Tears," had it been the Linda Ronstadt version I'd have had it high on my list. I guess just because since it's the one I grew up with it's the one I like best. 'Nuff said.
Lucky
I eliminated American Pie, for the same reason as Imagine last week. It's in the regular daily top ten right now. Otherwise it would have been my #1 or 2.
OLD 55
Thanks CeCee. I should have noticed that ! Sorry all, especially to Steel2Velvet who nominated American Pie. He abided by the rules, because I'm sure it wasn't in the Songfacts Tens when he nominated it. To prevent any confusion, I've deleted it from the Nominations List. How about you nominate 3 next time Ron ? Imagine was in the Songfacts Daily Top Ten very briefly when we were well into the voting last time, so I left it. I should have looked this time, because American Pie is always in and out of either the Songfacts Daily or Weekly Top Tens. Shawna, can I ask you to pretty please change your Top Ten
Shawna
I never even look at the daily top ten (where is it? ). What I look for in making my picks is what the song means to me... where I was in my life when I first heard it, how long before I got sick of it - if ever! And if it's a song I can still listen to today and enjoy, it gets my vote

OLD 55
YOU have nothing to apologise for CeeCee. It's my mistake but I'm sure Ron will forgive me. The only way not to make mistakes is to never do anything !
