The Songfactors' Choice Top Ten # 12

Recommended Posts

This was, for me, by far the most difficult selection. I could easily have picked 20 songs from this fabulous list!!

Just like me, CanAm...

:)

My list:

1- The singer not the song - The Rolling Stones

2- All My Loving - The Beatles

3- 96 Tears - ? & The Mysterians

4- These Boots Are Made For Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra

5- Stop! In The Name Of Love - The Supremes

6- San Franciscan Nights - Eric Burdon & The Animals

7- California Dreamin' - The Mamas & The Papas

8- One Way Or Another - Blondie

9- Sunny Afternoon - The Kinks

10- Russian Roulette - The Lords of the New Church

It was easy to get my ten,but it was tougher to put in my top 10 in order.

1.These Boots Are Made For Walking. Another hit from the year of '66. Plus Nancy in knee high boots and mini skirt just about did the trick for a teenage boy.

2. All My Loving

3. Mack The Knife. "Ole Mackie's back in town"

4. Garden Party. "If memories are all I played I'd rather drive a truck."

5. We're An Amercian Band. Hard driving rock.

6. Imagine. The final scene in the movie "The Killing Fields" uses this for the background music. I get teary eyed every time I watch it.

7. Abraham, Martin, John. Dion's last big hit. It too brings on the misty eyes.

8. Money For Nothing. "And the chicks for free". I love this video.

9. OHIO. I remember that day in May very well. I still see the young lady knelling over the body of the young man. I was in the Army Reserves a few years later, and the commander of that unit should have done time in Levenworth.

10. Man I just saw "Califronia Dreaming" I will put that in as my number 10 when in reality it may have finished higher if I would have noticed it earlier. My wife thinks it is a depressing song becaues of the line "all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray". Come to think of it that does sound depressing.

I'm sticking with my own nominations for numbers 1 and 2. Surprised that these outstanding late 80s/90s female artists didn't score with other SFers.

1. Give Me One Reason - Tracy Chapman ( won the 1996 Grammy for Best Rock Song ).

2. I'm The Only One - Melissa Etheridge ( Bring Me Some Water is another of my favorites. Would that one have rated better? )

3. Ohio

4. The Thrill Is Gone

5. Work Song

6. One Way Or Another

7. Sunny Afternoon

8. Listen To Her Heart

9. San Franciscan Nights

10.La Grange

I think you all know that I like to keep rules to a minimum.

Here's our current rules, which I reiterated a couple of days ago:

* Nominate two songs that aren't currently in the Songfacts Daily or Weekly Top Tens. (They are the Main Charts - this is supplementary to them).

* When nominations close, choose your favorite Ten songs in preference order from the Final Nominations and post them on here. Points are allotted 10 for your #1 song, 9 for #2, Etc. and our Top Ten is compiled from them.

Sorry, but any songs submitted obviously only in alphabetical order receive 1 Point each, starting from this Top Ten. I don't mean to offend or cause embarrassment to anybody, but I feel this is the fairest thing to do.

I'll leave voting open for a while longer. If any of our regulars who didn't get a chance to nominate are around, they are, of course, most welcome to vote.

:P

VOTING NOW CLOSED.

Thanks rt. I appreciate the support. I agonise over things like that. You can see why I had ulcers and haven't had a beer for over 20 years.

I will tally up the Top Ten now and post it soon. I think quite a few of our 'regulars' are still away, and all who nominated have voted.
