Tenacious_Peaches
Of all the lists, I think I would listen to Jenny's the most. I love that you nominated Fallin' by Alicia Keys. I think she is spectacular.
invisible_r
I'm not familiar with the book or the author, but those words seem to carry an anti - violence message to me, whatever the content of the book. The man seems to be in a state of shocked disbelief that he's just killed another man. well, you are kind of right. he is in disbelief that's he's killed another man, but there is a lot of subcontext there which is missing in the song, like racism, as the book is set in algeria ( i think) and the protagonist is french. and the issue of him being executed for this murder, and how he contemplates his life and what a terrible person he was etc etc

He's cold and doesn't care. He didn't even care about his own mother's death... Sorry, Oldfif, we shouldn't be talking about literature in this thread... Just in case you want to know... Farin
The prodagonist killed another man and now sits in prison, waiting for his execution, and ponders on his life and what kind of person he was... I guess I can see where the rumour about it inspiring "Bohemian Rhapsody" comes from
edna
Rachel, Farin seems to share a passion too... "Bohemian Rapsody" also tells about a man who killed another man but at least he shows some remorse and is sorry. The movie is excellent. Luchino Visconti made an amazing film with this novel. OLD 55
Thanks Rachel and Edna. Before yesterday I always thought the Cure's "Killing An Arab" was an anti - war song about the Gulf War ! But I see it was recorded way back in the late 70s. I always think of them as an 80s/90s Group. I was going to ask for the book at the Library but it sounds too depressing for me. Gee I should have looked in Songfacts. It has some of what you told me there. Rachel and Edna, you could add to what they have. Check it out! Edited May 16, 2006 by Guest

OLD 55
Oops that should have been Bobby Hebb and not Booby Hebb. I thought you meant he sang like a bird on that beautiful song, Sunny, rt. We all know that a "booby" is a species of bird - don't we Shawna.
rtstuff
I sure made a "Boo Boo" on that one OLD 55. Once again some great nominations. "These Eyes" by the Geuss Who is one of my favorites. By the way I was listening to the radio this morning and I heard the Guess Who will be appearing in my neighborhood this summer. I am pumped for that one!!! rtstuff
rtstuff
I just listened to the theme from "Shaft". Man what a great, great intro. rtstuff "Whose the man that won't cop out when there's danger all about, Shaft, can you dig it."
OLD 55
Hi rt ! I do that all the time when I'm typing (two fingers). I can't believe it when I look up and see the result sometimes. I have to look at each of the keys as I hit them; Val and the 'kids' say they can hear me typing from the other end of the house. The Theme From Shaft was funk/disco before it's time. Funny, I saw the Movie on DVD recently and it seemed so corny - not like I remembered it from some 30 odd years ago. I didn't even know the Guess Who were still together and performing!
