Killing an Arab

The Cure

Standing on the beach

With a gun in my hand

Staring at the sky

Staring at the sand

Staring down the barrel

At the arab on the ground

See his open mouth

But I hear no sound

I'm alive

I'm dead

I'm a stranger

Killing an arab

I can turn

And walk away

Or I can fire the gun

Staring at the sky

Staring at the sun

Whichever I choose

It amounts to the same

Absolutely nothing

I'm alive

I'm dead

I'm a stranger

Killing an arab

I feel the silver jump

Smooth in my hand

Staring at the sea

Staring at the sand

Staring at myself

Reflected in the eyes

Of the dead man on the beach

The dead man on the beach

I'm alive

I'm dead

I'm the stranger

Killing an arab

Definitely based on Albert Camus' novel.

Thanks jman ! I changed my mind. I had two 80s songs, but with all the talk about Manfred Mann in the previous thread, I'm going with one of theirs + one great 80s song.

Do Wah Diddy Diddy - Manfred Mann (it was in the Movie "Stripes")

Centerfold - J.Geils Band

:)

I went to a Manfred Mann concert in 1967 or so with Mike D'Abo singing. They were very good but I liked them better when Paul Jones was the lead singer. I did buy his solo album, Love Me, Love My Friends, which was not up to the quality I was used to hear from the Manfreds. Dylans The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol was great though. I sold most of my vinyls in the 80s when I needed money, but have most of them now as mp3. One favourite I never managed to find though is Paul Jones' single Sonny Boy Williamson.

nope, not an anti or pro-war song, just based on the camus novel "the outsider/the stranger"

I'm not familiar with the book or the author, but those words seem to carry an anti - violence message to me, whatever the content of the book. The man seems to be in a state of shocked disbelief that he's just killed another man.

Ok here are my two for this list....

Pretending ~ Eric Clapton

This is my 80's pick, 1989 from The Journeyman album. What a great intro, you hear a piano slow then jam, then drums, then kick azz guitar!

Burn Down The Mission ~ Elton John

This is from Tumbleweed Connection album 1971. I love this song, it has such a gospel feel to it. One of Elton's best!

Here she goes

1. Sunny Bobby Hebb - Again I go back to one of my memorable times the summer of 66. Seems like there was great tunes that summer of my youth. The Loving Spoonfuls "Summer In The City" and Bobby Hebb's "Sunny" battled it out for number one on my local AM stations.

2. Beth by KISS - What a tender and beautiful song coming from the throats of the KISS Army. There was no blood spewing on this number.
